 Vritra is the most powerful snake in Hindu mythology.. Vritra is also known as Ahi in the Rig Ved which literally translates to serpent or snake. He is trillions of times above fodders like Ravana, Hiranyakashipu or other demons..

Vritra performed penance for one of the longest tenures, ie sixty thousand years.. therefore he posessed immense ascetic power.. In addition to this, Brahma given him power + all kinds of illusions..

Indra was empowered by the full might of all Devs while he faced Vritra in battle.

O Dhananjaya, all celestial weapons arewith Indra. The celestials, from fear of Vritra, imparted at the time all their might to Sakra. Gathered together in one place, thou wilt obtain allweapons. Go thou unto Sakra, he will give thee all his weapons. Taking the bow set thou out this very day in order to behold Purandara."

But still was defeated and knocked out by the serpent demon. Vasisht revived Indra and empowers the lord of gods with his own might. In addition to this, Shiva gives a portion of his power to Indra and weakened Vritra with his Shiva - Jvara (which is embodiment of Virabhadra).

'While Vasava of great energy was thus being restored to consciousness by the high-souled Vasishtha, his strength became greatly enhanced. The illustrious chastiser of Paka then, relying upon his intelligence, had recourse to high Yoga and with its aid dispelled these illusions of Vritra. Then Vrihaspati, the son of Angiras, and those foremost of Rishis possessed of great prosperity, beholding the prowess of Vritra, repaired to Mahadeva, and impelled by the desire of benefiting the three worlds, urged him to destroy the great Asura. The energy of that illustrious lord of the universe thereupon assumed the character of a fierce fever and penetrated the body of Vritra the lord of Asuras.

In addition to all these amps, Vishnu himself posessed Indra's Vajra.

The illustrious and divine Vishnu, adored of all the worlds, bent upon protecting the universe, entered the thunderbolt of Indra. Then Vrihaspati of great intelligence and Vasishthaof exceeding energy, and all the other foremost of Rishis, repairing to Him of a hundred sacrifices, viz., the boon-giving Vasava, the adored of all theworlds, addressed him, saying, 'Slay Vritra, O puissant one, without delay!'"

Maheswara said, 'Yonder, O Sakra, stands the great Vritra, accompanied by a great force. He is the soul of the universe, capable of going everywhere,endued with large powers of illusion, and possessed of great celebrity. This foremost of Asuras is, therefore, incapable of being vanquished by even the three worlds united together. Aided by Yoga, do thou slay him, O chief of the deities. Do not disregard him. For full sixty thousand years, O chief of the celestials, Vritra practised the severest penances for obtaining strength.Brahman gave him the boons he had solicited, viz., the greatness that belongs to Yogins, large powers of illusion, excess of might, and superabundant energy. I impart to thee my energy, O Vasava! The Danava has now lost his coolness. Do thou, therefore, slay him now with thy thunderbolt.

The full might of all Devs + Vishnu + Shiva and Vasishta’s energy empowering Indra + Shiva - Jvara weakening Vritra was needed to being this demon down.

So he's undoubtedly most powerful snake or serpent in all epics or Puranas.

1. He is the incarnation of Vishnu Sudarshana chakra (which already makes him a superior avatar to Nara Narayana who are only a small portion of Vishnu) . Only Vishnu can defeat him not any ansh avatars .
2. Kartavirarjuna has enough strength to move the oceans and rivers . Arjuna doesn't even comes close anywhere near that lvl.
3. Kartavirarjuna was physically stronger than even Ravana who lifted mountain kaliash and endured the pain of getting crushed for 10,000 years from Lord Shiva. Ravan also lifted celestial mountains and also withstand the force of crores of vanaras hurling large mountains on him but he was completely overpowered by Kartavirarjuna.

 Vali is no where near Hanuman . People use uttarakhanda feat to hype Vali but the same Uttarakhanda refers to Hanuman as superior to Vali , kumbhakaran and even Meghnath .

 I saw many of th answers but not all ot them are accurate, so I decided to answer the most accurate answer.

10. JAYADRATHA

He was the one responsible for ambhimanyu's death, and lets not forget he had given boon by lord Shiva that he can't be killed by anyone except combination of arjuna and krishna.

It was impossible to kill him because of the boon also given by his father Vriddhakshatra.

9. Abhimanyu

He was Youngest warrior in mahabharata

He was only 33 years old when he died compared to other warriors who were 100+

Full armed Abhimanyu was impossible to be killed

He was son of chandra (moon)

So karna, jayadratha, aswathhama,kripacharya broke his armor and was killed in chakravyu

8. Ghatotkacha

He was Half human and half rakhsasha. Ghatotkacha was invincible because of his huge body and power

So instead of using shakti astra on Arjuna given by lord Indra to karna, karna used this astra to kill him. When he fell down after being killed, he took entire army behind him by falling on them.

7. Duryodhana

His whole body was of stone except his waist area everyone knows why

He was one of the greatest mace warrior on earth

He was strongest of all kauravas and he was still alive for 3 days after all bones being shattered by bheema.

6. Aswathhama

It is believed that he is avtar of lord shiva

He is immortal because of curse given by shri krishna that he will live for 5000 years on earth

He also killed all uppa pandavas (not in war)

He is also responsible for abhimanyu’s death

Being son of drona and avtar of shiva and immortal he was impossible to defeat.

There can be tie between aswathama and bheem.

Bheem was spiritual son of vayu god and half brother of lord hanuman

He had most kills in the war and he also killed all 100 kauravas .

He was incredibly strong, he also had power of 10,000 elephants given by serpent king vasuki

4. Arjuna

Here comes one of the greatest archer to be ever born on earth.

He was spritual son of lord indra and had bow named (gandiva) given by lord indra.

His charioteer was the god sri krishna himself 8th avatar of god of universe sri vishnu

But remember he was victorious only because of sri krishna or else pandavas would be defeated

3. Dronacharya

As i said pandavas only won because of sri krishna

Power of drona is much more than arjuna

He was 3rd incarnation of lord brahma and teacher of pandava and kaurvas.

Full armoured drona was impossible to be killed

he had sword name (asi) given by lord brahma

He also had knowledge of all three astras- brahmastra, pashupatastra , narayanastra

He was killed by cheating or kauravas would have surely won.

2. Karna

Here comes the greatest man who ever lived on earth

Karna was spiritual son of surya (sun god)

He was given armour (kavach n kundal) given by sun god which was attached to his skin at the time of birth

his armour was taken by lord indra but then also he fought vigorously. Imagine with armour he would be impossible to be killed

He was disciple of lord parshurama and had curse given by him that he will forget all his knowledge at the time of use.

He was insulted by everyone because of being sutputra (later found that he was not sutputra but eldest of all pandavas) he lived his life only because of duryodhana his best freind.

1. Bheeshma

Bheeshma was immortal because of boon given by his father shantanu of ‘ichha mrytu” (he can only die if he is willing to)

Bheeshma was son of goddess ganga.

The power of parshurama (7th incarnation of vishnu) and bishma was same. He was also disciple of parshurama

It was so hard to defeat him that lord krishna who became charioteer of arjuna, have to himself take out the wheel of chariot to kill him (because he vowed before war that he will not use any weapon to kill anybody nor he will kill anyone) so he broke that vow.

Arjuna and shikandi penetrated 130 arrows in his body still he was alive because of boon. he knew that he was at side of adharma (sin) so refused to fight and died after 58 days of war when parikshit (son of abhimanyu) was declared as new king.

Who is more powerful - Drona or Bhisma?

 Bhishma is an Insect compared to Drona.

Firstly drona was the most Inconsistent warrior in MB (mainly due to his Mildness most times).. There are Instances Where he mopped the floor with Arjuna and also Instances where A weakling like Yudhisthira mopped the floor with Drona.

Drona's True Potential can be seen on 15th day , 4 days of failure in capturing Yudhisthira in addition to Duryodhana's insults. He was totally Frustrated and angry on 15th day and went all out. None could stand before him that day.

On 9th day (Bhism's prime), Krishna knew Arjuna could easily defeat and subjugate Bhism but due to the latter's mildness , he didn't did so. So Krishna took up weapons to force Arjuna to fight vigorously.

But this was Krishna's reaction on seeing Drona's wrath on 15th day.

Meanwhile, O monarch, Govinda, knowing that Drona, that foremost of warriors, was capable of sweeping all the Pandavas off the face of the earth, became much distressed. Addressing Yudhishthira he said, 'If Drona fighteth, filled with rage, for even half-a-day, I tell thee truly, thy army will then be annihilated. Save us, then, from Drona. under such circumstances, falsehood is better than truth. By telling an untruth for saving a life, one is not touched by sin. There is no sin in untruth spoken unto women, or in marriages, or for saving king, or for rescuing a Brahmana.'

Because he knew Arjuna cant Even scratch him on that day. Drona didn't had any boon yet Pandavas had to use a Disgusting Trick to put him down.

Beholding the sons of Kunti afflicted with the shafts of Drona and inspired with fear, Kesava, endued with great intelligence and, devoted to their welfare, addressed Arjuna and said, 'This foremost of all bowmen is incapable of being ever vanquished by force in battle, by the very gods with Vasava at their head. When, however, he lays aside his weapons, he becomes capable of being slain on the field even by human beings. Casting aside virtue, ye sons of Pandu, adopt now some contrivance for gaining the victory, so that Drona of the golden car may not slay us all in battle. Upon the full of (his son) Aswatthaman he will cease to fight, I think. Let sonic man, therefore, tell him that Aswatthaman, hath been slain in battle.'

Why didn't Krishna asked Arjuna fight vigorously like in case of Bhishm? Because he was already giving his best and Krishna knew that's the only way to get rid of Drona for Good.

The concern caused by Bhishma was nowhere near What Drona caused.

In this form (15th day) Drona would Eat 1000s of Bhismas Effortlessly.

Bhisma’s best weapon Is Brahmastra whereas Drona posesed pashupatastra, Brahmastra, Narayanastra and Brahmashira. Bhishma Also couldn't do much against Arjuna during his lifetime. Whereas Drona convincingly defeated him on 14th day..

What were the five most powerful weapons of Shri Krishna?

 Five most powerful Weapons of Krishna in no particular order are:

1.Sharanga Bow

Sharanga bow was created by divine architect Vishwakarma for Lord Vishnu. It was used by Krishna in many of his wars.

2. Sudarshan Chakra

Lord Agni gave Sudarshan Chakra to Krishna during Khandava daha . He used it to kill Sishupala.

3. Kaumudaki Mace

Early scriptures showed Lord Vishnu holding Kaumudaki mace in his right hand.

4. Panchajanya

Sage Sandipani was the gurukul teacher of Krishna,Balarama and Sudhama. The sage’s son was kidnapped by a sea demon named Panchajanya or Shankasur who imprisoned the child in a conch shell. As part of guru dakshina, Krishna killed the sea demon and returned the child back to his parents. Sandipani presented the conch to Krishna and named it Panchajanya.

5. Nandaka sword

Lord Vishnu is called as Nandaki in Vishnu Sahastranama. It means one who wields Nandaka. It is also mentioned in Vishnu Purana and Varaha Purana.

Who is more powerful, Rama or Krishna based on their avatars? Why do you think so?

 They are pretty much the same and we should not distinguish between the avatars.

Rama proved his superiority over the world by liberating Taraka from the curse of Agatsya. Vishwamitra clearly mentions that only Rama is capable of dispelling her curse from three worlds.

• O descendant of the Raghu lineage! She is so enveloped in the curse that in the three worlds, no man except you is capable of standing up to her.

Similarly, Rama displayed the superiority over other gods when he punished Jayantha.

Indra’s son roamed around all the three worlds and couldn't find a protector.

• You picked up a blade of darbha grass and invoked brahmastra on it. It blazed like the flaming fire of destruction and headed in the direction of the bird. You flung the blazing darbha towards the crow. The blazing darbha followed the crow. It was abandoned by its father and by all the gods and the maharshis. It circled around the three worlds, but could not find a protector. O one who is a refuge! It fell down on the ground and sought refuge with you. O Kakutstha! Though it deserved to be killed, because of your compassion, you saved it

Rama lived in an era where people had higher spirtual power and they could easily recognise him as god Narayana.

Kishna on the other hand more often needs to display more of his divinity such as universal form.

They are both one and the same . We should not do stupid comparison by comparing their achievements.
