Yes. Ravana got his name from Lord Shiva in his later life. As he was born to Kaikasi and Vishravas muni, he was initially named as Dashanana, or the one with ten heads. But then as he did penance of Brahmaji, he got the boon of not being killed by any devata or demons or supernatural beings. Brahma said, “So be it.” And later dashanana, grew arrogant by the boon given by Brahmaji. He snatched away Lanka from Kubera.
Initially Kubera asked Sage Vishravas for a place so that he could live. Sage Vishravas asked him to go to Lanka. During deva-daanava sangraama devatas defeated the daanavas and all the demons entered paataalaloka. Since then the golden Lanka was abandoned. Now, as per Sage Vishravas’s orders Kubera ruled over Lanka. So, dashanana snatched away the kingdom Lanka from kubera. Kubera then went to Alakapuri and ruled there. dashanana even snatched away Kubera’s pushpaka Vimana that Brahma gave him.
So, coming to the point, like this Dashanana tormented all and then he finally reached Kailasa where Mahadeva Lord Shiva resided. Dashanana was stopped by Nandeeshwara, the vehicle of Lord Shiva. At this Dashanana out of arrogance mocks Nandeeshwara by calling him “vaanar faced one”. At this Nandeeshwara cursed Dashanana that “let monkeys or vaanaras only be the reason of your death”. But Dashanana was unfazed by this too, because his arrogance was at peak.
He tried to show his arrogance by lifting the great Mount Kailasa. Lord Shiva seeing this, just pressed the ground with his toe. As a result of this, Dashanana’s hands were stuck under the huge Kailasa Parvata. Dashanana cried aloud and it was like a loud roar. He recited the Shiva Tandava stotra. Pleased by this stotra, Lord Shiva appeared and provided him the boon. Thus since Dashanana cried aloud out of pain, he was known as Ravana. From then he was known as Ravana and he became a very big devotee of Lord Shiva!
Hope this helps!
