2. Dronacharya was born in an unique way. One day sage Bharadwaja was offering oblations into the fire. At that time he saw an apsara named Ghritachi who was bathing in the nearby pond. Suddenly the wind blew her garments away. On seeing her, Bharadwaja's semen issued out and fell into the sacrificial pot. Drona was thus born from the pot and is considered to be the world's first ever test tube baby.
3. Dronacharya received the entire weaponry of Parashurama. He also learnt the mysteries of Dhanur Veda and received the knowledge of celestial weapons from Parashurama.
4. Dronacharya received Narayanastra as a boon from Lord Vishnu.
5. Dronacharya lived in Raivataka mountain near Dwarka for a long period of time.
6. Dronacharya becoming the preceptor of the Kuru princes is an interesting story. One day the Kuru princes were playing with a wooden ball which fell into a well. Dronacharya, who was unknown to the Kuru princes, saw the unsuccessful attempts of the Kuru princes to recover the ball from the well. Dronacharya came forward and surrounded the princes. Picking up some reeds from the ground, he placed the reeds in a long chain and pierced the ball which was at the bottom of the well. Pulling out the chain of reeds skillfully with his hand, Dronacharya recovered the wooden ball from the well. The astonished princes immediately rushed to Bhishma and told about Dronacharya's feat. Bhishma knew Dronacharya and discerned what had happened. He immediately went to Dronacharya and requested him on behalf of king Dhritarashtra to be the preceptor of the princes. Dronacharya agreed and started to live in Hastinapura.
7. Dronacharya was eighty-five years old when he fought for the Kourava side in Kurukshetra war.
8. Dronacharya killed more than two Akshauhinis of Pandava soilders during his term as Kourava commander.
9. Dronacharya deployed the Kourava soilders in diverse war formations.
- Shakata Vyuha on the 11th day.
- Ardha Chandra Vyuha on the 12th day.
- The famous Chakra Vyuha on the 13th day.
- A combination of Shakata Vyuha and Ardha Chandra Vyuha on the 14th day.
- A complex bifurcated Vyuha on the 15th day.
10. Dronacharya was a possessor of Pashupatastra apart from Arjuna. He used Aindrastra, Pashupatastra, Tvastarastra, Vayavyastra and Varunastra to fight with Arjuna on the 15th day.
11. Dronacharya possessed the divine bow of sage Angirasa. He wielded the bow for the first time on the 15th day to fight with Dhristadyumna.
12. Dronacharya wasn't actually killed by Dhristadyumna as widely believed. On the request of divine beings and celestial sages, Dronacharya discarded his bow and weapons. Steadying himself to yoga, Dronacharya sat down on the floor of his chariot. Resolving to end his own life, Dronacharya sat down in meditation and his soul departed from his body. Dronacharya's soul merged with Brihaspati, thus leaving behind his lifeless body on the chariot. Dhristadyumna decapitated Dronacharya's lifeless body. This was done by Dronacharya to prevent the pupil from committing the sin of killing the preceptor.
