I am a south Indian. I have watched very less number of Bollywood movies.
People say that there is a lot of Nepotism in Bollywood. I don't believe that would be a real concern.
I strongly believe that a movie whether to be Hit or flop is entirely depends upon audience.
Let me say a few examples from tollywood.
He is Bellamkonda Srinivas son of Bellamkonda Suresh,a big producer in tollywood.
He did nine movies with his worst acting.
Almost none of the film's went well at box office. It is very clear that people denied him.
Below is AlluArjun son of a big producer Allu Aravind. He is from Megastar family which produced almost 8 heroes from his family.
But his movies are very good and went well at box office as he proved his capability in acting. So people encouraged him. Same with the case of Mahesh Babu, NTR, RamCharan, Nag Chaitanya, etc.
It entirely depends on people (audience) whether to accept a good movie/ actor or not.
I have watched some very good movies in Bollywood still they didn't got any recognition as much as Salman khan movies.
Movie: Section 375 ,A legal drama
Budget: 20 Crores
Collection: 22 Crores
Movie : Tumbbad
Of course, there are many underrated movies.
Finally all I wanted to say is nepotism is everywhere. It's not something which is only in Bollywood industry. In final what matters is whether you have watched/ enjoyed a good movie or not.
Edit1:
Movie : Student of the year 2
Budget: 80Crores
Box office Collection: Whooping 109 crores.
My concern is, if this movie is not at all true when compared to reality, then why everyone watched it? 🤣🤣
The reason is you enjoyed this movie. It may be it's production values, songs, dance or fights. You enjoyed something in this movie but you complaining here (quora) that SOY2 is shot & Bollywood is not producing good movies. Lol
Edit 2: People are again saying that due to their influence these stars use to survive in industry even though they are not at all good at acting skills, dance etc. I agree that. But my point is different. We don't spend money to go to theatre for a small movie. We watch it from prime or other platforms. But we watch these privileged star movies from theatres. That's what I am saying. It Completely depends on audience whether to encourage them or not. Bellamkonda Srinivas may be a good person I have just cited him as an example don't think otherwise. And moreover nepotism is not just in movie industry. It lies in every industry. But we only talk about cinema industry as it is in more lime light when compared to others.
And I am glad that now a days people are encouraging even small budget movies with good content in our industry (tollywood).
