What went wrong with Vijay Mallya?

  • Vijay Mallya was the son of Vittal Mallya and his 2nd wife Lalitha Mallya.
  • After his father's death, Vijay Mallya becomes UB group chairman at 25, which was around 19,000 crore in 1983.
  • In 2003 , he introduced Kingfisher airlines and in 2005 one flight was taken by Kingfisher airlines.
Good Fleet of service, good air hostesses, top class furnishings.
  • He used to take interviews of air hostesses by himself. He had Flambyont image.
  • Here are the few points due to which Kingfisher airlines went into problems:
  1. Kingfisher airlines is the mismangement which turned into scam.
    • It was running in all the non-profitable routes.I think there was some ego , where they thought, where no one will go , Kingfisher will go.
    • There was no sustainable business model.Regularly asking for bail out packages.
    • If we compare Indigo business model and Kingfisher Business model, Indigo has same fleet for all the people, while Kingfisher keeps on switching between Low cost fleet or Premium fleet. This was the reason, there was no standardization in Kingfisher airlines and ease of operation was bad.
    • He never use to go to Rajya Sabha nor to his company. He was busy mostly in parties.

2. Mistake of Acquisition and expansion.

  • Acquisition of Deccan and expansion Internationally was the big MISTAKE. It was already in loss and instead of making corrections in business model, it started acquiring and expansion, resulted in further loss.
  • Kingfisher Red (Deccan) vs Kingfisher Airlines : Both confused people due to same name of deccan and kingfisher. As a result , there was competition between the two airlines and people switched to other airlines.
  • As we all know, Expansion without gross margin is comitting suicide. This is the reason of failure for all the startups. They keep on investing and expanding , without thinking of their margin.

3. Fast Cash and low Profit:

And when , 2008 recession came, economic slowdown resulted in downfall of airline industries and as already Kingfisher airlines was in loss, it started losing its customers .Fuel prices hiked and Vijay Mallya was unable to pay the loans and salaries of employees.

These are the few reasons which resulted in the downfall of Kingfisher Airlines and hence Vijay Mallya.

What is wrong with Bollywood?

I am a south Indian. I have watched very less number of Bollywood movies.

People say that there is a lot of Nepotism in Bollywood. I don't believe that would be a real concern.

I strongly believe that a movie whether to be Hit or flop is entirely depends upon audience.

Let me say a few examples from tollywood.

He is Bellamkonda Srinivas son of Bellamkonda Suresh,a big producer in tollywood.

He did nine movies with his worst acting.

Almost none of the film's went well at box office. It is very clear that people denied him.

Below is AlluArjun son of a big producer Allu Aravind. He is from Megastar family which produced almost 8 heroes from his family.

But his movies are very good and went well at box office as he proved his capability in acting. So people encouraged him. Same with the case of Mahesh Babu, NTR, RamCharan, Nag Chaitanya, etc.

It entirely depends on people (audience) whether to accept a good movie/ actor or not.

I have watched some very good movies in Bollywood still they didn't got any recognition as much as Salman khan movies.

Movie: Section 375 ,A legal drama

Budget: 20 Crores

Collection: 22 Crores

Movie : Tumbbad

Of course, there are many underrated movies.

Finally all I wanted to say is nepotism is everywhere. It's not something which is only in Bollywood industry. In final what matters is whether you have watched/ enjoyed a good movie or not.

Edit1:

Movie : Student of the year 2

Budget: 80Crores

Box office Collection: Whooping 109 crores.

My concern is, if this movie is not at all true when compared to reality, then why everyone watched it? 🤣🤣

The reason is you enjoyed this movie. It may be it's production values, songs, dance or fights. You enjoyed something in this movie but you complaining here (quora) that SOY2 is shot & Bollywood is not producing good movies. Lol

Edit 2: People are again saying that due to their influence these stars use to survive in industry even though they are not at all good at acting skills, dance etc. I agree that. But my point is different. We don't spend money to go to theatre for a small movie. We watch it from prime or other platforms. But we watch these privileged star movies from theatres. That's what I am saying. It Completely depends on audience whether to encourage them or not. Bellamkonda Srinivas may be a good person I have just cited him as an example don't think otherwise. And moreover nepotism is not just in movie industry. It lies in every industry. But we only talk about cinema industry as it is in more lime light when compared to others.

And I am glad that now a days people are encouraging even small budget movies with good content in our industry (tollywood).

What are some of the wrong depictions of South India in Bollywood movies?

Bollywood doesn’t know any place other than Mumbai and Awadh.

With respect of South India, they only have two cities- Chennai and “Kerala”(I know this is a state)

Their South Indian vocabulary starts from ”Ayyo” and ends at “Yenna Rascala”.

Apparently all South Indian dons only well-plaid SAREES. Seldom you will see any South Indian girls in any other clothes, be it Dil Se… or 2 States.

Another thing is that they expect all South Indians will be trained in Classical Indian dances. Nothing wrong in that but just that in every Bollywood movie I had watched on South India, protagonist will have one classical dance number.

I am a North Indian but I have met a lot of South Indian students in schools (Army School). And trust me, their vocabulary is not as bad as it is shown in movie. You will be surprised at how clear is pronunciation of many. But who will tell this to Bollywood.

(Most annoying accent of all time. Comic, but hugely irritating)

I don’t think that South Indians wear only Lungi.

Agneepath, Sajan Chale Sasural, Padosan, Gumnaam, these are some movies where characters only wear Lungi all the time.

Bollywood need to introspect on how they portray different cultures. Most of us grow watching Bollywood and think that what’s shown there is true as hell.

P.S. High Expectations from Thalaivi. Hope this doesn’t disappoint us in terms of cultural portrayal.

What is wrong with Indian TV shows?

  • Women eat, sleep, bath in the style. Heavy jewellery only.
    • Because according to them, Indian housewife means full of jewellery all the time.
  • Having a baby is dangerous. It will definitely get lost or exchanged with someone else.
    • It's preparation for long runtime pf show of years because when they feel like show is ending, the baby will come from somewhere suddenly all grown up.
  • More background noise then the dialogues.
    • It's to increase of the show and everyday many minutes we just hear this background noise and their shocking reactions.
  • Lead character betrayed foolish by others and lead extremely unhappy life.
    • Emotional atyachar.
  • Grandmothers and grandfathers live for more than 200 years.
    • No one saw them dying even in 50 years long show.
  • There's only one temple in world where everyone meets.
    • It must be called 'national meeting point' of India.
  • Something bad happened, earthen Lamp out.
    • Diya extinguishes and husband hospitalized.
  • Hero dies - family cremates him - His duplicate appears - family still believes dead hero is back.
    • Superpower.
  • At the end, aging is for losers. We stay forever young.
    • All thanks to Ekta Kapoor ayurvedic medicines.

Thanks for scrolling down.

What is wrong with Bollywood movies?

You might be familiar with this movie.

Yes, it's the newly released movie Sonu ki Titu ki Sweety, which is surprisingly a blockbuster. The movie also acclaimed popularity for its songs, which were composed by none other than “the great” Honey Singh.

The image above is from the song “Chhote Chhote Peg”. Just look at the lyrics-

Pila de deewani main hoon jiski
I’m a bad girl, I like whisky

Jab mujhko chadh jaati to
Nashe mein ho jaati main risky

A rough translation - My lover, made me drink whiskey as I am a bad girl, when I get high, I become “risky”.

Ooh. Looks great!!!

Pee gayi bottle khade khade
Scene tera mere sar se parey
Pata hai mujhe tujhe hoga hangover
Tabhi pehle se hi nimbu meri jeb me pade

And if you translate this, it means roughly - you gulped down the entire bottle in minutes, we have no idea what we are upto, I knew you would get a hangover so I carried a lemon before hand (to reduce the concentration).

Will not going to translate the full song, the lyrics follows: CHHOTE CHHOTE PEG LYRICS – Honey Singh | Neha Kakkar | Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

So I think you got how the song goes on. It basically exhibits how a girl should crave for whiskey, and that makes her “risky”. Unless you drink, you won't have any charm and blah blah blah.

And don't forget to see how the song ends -

What basically worries me, is that when a school goer listens to the song and memorise the lyrics, he/she will subconsciously become concerned about drinking, and specifically a girl, won't it veer her thoughts and she would think drinking is cool, she becomes “risky” after some couple of pegs.

The movie might be a good one, I haven't watched it yet (and hopefully not even think of watching it), but Bollywood songs do have a large impact on the society. Especially school-goers, teenagers who have an easy access to television and I don't believe any Indian teenager is unaware of Bollywood songs. What will they learn from this song?

I can cite you another example. When I was in school, this song was released.

You remember the lyrics-

Chaar bottle vodka, kaam Mera rozka

Naa mujhko koi roke, naa Kisi ne roka

So, the song says that four bottles of vodka are your daily task and no one ever dare to debar you from doing that.

So when this song became immensely popular, I remember some primary school boys, while playing, were singing the song.

Does they even have the idea what are they singing?

So even as a parent, you might supervise the films he watches, but what about the songs? Who will monitor it?

And even if now, when your kid wants to go for movies, which movie are you going to take him/her with? Even the present comedy movies, don't they have erotic songs/dialogues or dances? Are you going to show him/her that?

I am quite lucky to have watched Bollywood movies like Taare Zameen Par, Jajantaram Mamantaram, Chillar Party, Bhootnath, My Friend Ganesha etc when I was a school-goer. When is the last time had Bollywood made a Children movie, in the last five to six years ??

So from these Bollywood movies, even if adults are enjoying, some filthy erotic scenes, songs and dialogues are quenching their thirsts. Even if some critically acclaimed movies are there, they are masterpieces and have a great role in the industry, but they are always not suitable for children.

So this is what Bollywood is doing wrong, you are forgetting the children.

What went wrong for Govinda in Bollywood?

Once Govinda signed 36 films in a single sitting, which indicates how successful he was in the 1990s. Then, what went wrong?

A still from Raja Babu (1994).

Possible reasons for Govinda’s decline:

1) Govinda's last worth-remembering work was Hadh Kar Di Aapne and Kunwara in 2000. Further films/roles were dull and not the kind of work Govinda was known for. Even though he gave a few more Filmfare Award-nominated performances post-2000, the audience wasn’t amused. Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (2001) and Akhiyon Se Goli Maare (2002) were flops and that was the start of Govinda's decline.

2) Rejecting great films. Govinda rejected films like Taal (1999), Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), Devdas (2002), etc. These decisions were conscious and did a lot of damage to Govinda’s career.

3) Joining politics. In 2003-04, Govinda joined politics. He had no film releases in 2004 and just 2 easily-forgotten releases in 2005. His disastrous political career almost ended his film career.

4) Anger. After getting a decent comeback with films like Bhagam Bhag (2006) and Partner (2007), Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (2008) was yet another film which may have given him more control. But, during the shoot of the film, he slapped a struggling actor named Santosh Rai. A case was filed against him which remained in the court for years. He had to finally apologize for his behaviour.

5) Distance from David Dhawan. Dhawan was probably the most influential man in Govinda's career. Dhawan's first film Taaqatwar (1989) starred Govinda and both later collaborated in 17 films. After Do Knot Disturb (2009), Dhawan never worked with Govinda. Govinda claimed in an interview that ‘Dhawan stopped working with him and had suggested others to do the same’.

6) Lack of entertaining cast. Throughout the 1990s, Govinda worked with many actors and comedians who were generally cast as his sidekicks or villains. These actors included Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Asrani, Paresh Rawal, etc. This strong-cast repetition had made Govinda a super-star during the 1990s, which wasn’t effectively repeated in the 2000s.

7) Multiple rifts. With his successful years long gone, Govinda seemed frustrated and angry. During the 2010s, he had disputes with people. One of them with his own nephew, comedian-actor Krushna Abhishek. Govinda's wife Sunita Ahuja too assisted him in the dispute against Krushna and his wife Kashmira Shah. Govinda finally shared a stage with Krushna during an episode of The Drama Company (2017-18), but, his unnecessary rifts with multiple people haven’t ended so far.

What is wrong with Bollywood movies?

1.A romantic scene between a 50-year-old and a 20-year-old is just disturbing. (Unless the plot demands it—

2. The Typical Lovestories, with the same story all the time -

Every movie has the same storyline. In the old days, movies always involved the hot guy saving the hot girl from the villains. Now, the hot guy falls in love with the girl, but somehow they just can’t or don’t want to be together, so the movie is a series of events which makes them fall for each other. Where is the originality?

3. It's either an item song or an almost item song to go with every film.

And they have absolutely no relevance in the film. For instance, why was Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan put in Roy? Completely unnecessary.

4. And the stereotypes that are extremely absurd!

Like every single gay character portrayed in a mainstream Bollywood movie will sound and talk the same, with all the double-meaning jokes.

Also, the cultural north-south stereotypes are countless..

5. Overloaded with the singing and dancing, becomes sometimes irritating-

The singing and dancing. Every 20 minutes, the actor bursts into song and, instantly, all the village people/college students/people at the mall/wedding guests start singing and dancing in sync with each other.

6. Why Mithun chakraborty’s movies didn't find something new in the story without indulging any Rape Scenes?

Mafia Raaz-

Phool Aur Angaare-

There are many more movies in this series in which there were too many rape scenes which really used to make us feel embarrassed while watching the movies of Mithun with our parents.

7. I don't understand how a 'pretty face' can compensate for bad acting.

When will the criteria change from 'model-turned-actresses who cannot act' to good ones in the lead?

8. And why are some actors excessively glorified and some completely underrated?

Except for a few who truly deserve to be where they are, let's not even talk about the rest.

9. And are missing logic.

10. Unreal action sequences that defy gravity!

11. Super-hero films make you want to run to the hills!

12. And what happened to the originality?

Does this word mean anything to our producers? Getting inspired clearly means getting a photocopy to them?

13. As if badnaam Munni wasn't enough, they needed Sheila,Chameli, Pinky, Laila and what's-your-face!

14. The Censor is also not untouched with the wrong things similar to the bollywood movies-

Intimate sex scenes continue to face the wrath of the censor board.

Hope the Indian Cinema sees a lot more changes in the coming years and it may present some good movies in between us so that we can have more or less some message from them. Rather than casting the big star casts, we should try to work mainly on owning the better scripts or stories. If the newcomers are given the chance and if the story is good enough, in that case also despite of the fact that the movie is a low budget one, it can do a good business on the box office and sometimes the records set by the high budget movies are broken by these low budget movies.

In this series, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana became more popular.

Movies like Newton, Trapped, Behan Hogi Teri, Vicky Donor, Tanu Weds Manu, Taare Zameen Par, No One Killed Jessica, Peepli Live, Kahaani, Paan Singh Tomar, English Vinglish etc., there are many more such movies which were the low budget movies but were the successful ones.
