The Dudhnoi–Mendipathar broad gauge line Located near North Garo Hills district, Length About 19.75 km total (with roughly 10 km inside Meghalaya) is inaugurated by by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It put Meghalaya on the railway map of India for the first time on November 30, 2014 in Meghalaya.
This railway route is located between New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Line via Goalpara, and the Mendipathar line diverges from Dudhnoi Junction.
However it has no direct railway route connectivity to Meghalaya’s capital Shillong which is approx 228 km and takes 6 hours by road. So a railway line from Tetelia Junction to New Shillong railway line is coming up soon
Previously it was Mizoram which has only 1 Railway station Bairabi railway station in Mizoram
After the Bairabi–Sairang railway project was sanctioned in 2009, Foundation Stone Laid on November 29, 2014 this project completed in mid-2025 and officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025. The 51.38-km line connects Mizoram's capital region Aizawl to the national railway network.
