There was a bitter fallout between Sunjay Dutt and director Sanjay Gupta in 2007. The fallout stemmed from alleged financial issues and misunderstandings created by third parties.
The friendship which started on the sets of Thanedaar turned professional when Sunjay Dutt played a crucial role in giving Gupta his directorial break with Aatish.
Further the duo collabrated for movies like Khauff, Jung, Kaante, Zinda and Dus Kahaaniyan. They had a fallout during the making of the film, Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Sunjay Dutt terminated his personal and professional partnership with Gupta amid allegations of financial bungling within their production company, White Feather Films. Dutt was unhappy with Gupta's business dealings particularly when Apoorva Lakhia claimed that he was not paid in full for his work on Shootout at Lokhandwala. Dutt even resigned from the production company.
This even resulted in a major three-year phase of no work for Gupta where he lost industry jobs because people believed Sanjay Dutt had blacklisted him.
Sanjay Gupta later stated that nothing went wrong between the two. It was only the people around them who tried to create misunderstandings.
The duo ultimately reconciled years later at Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday party where they shared an emotional hug. However, Sanjay Gupta shared a firm boundary that they would not work or drink together again.
