Neem Karoli Baba, he was known as Maharaj Ji was born around 1900 in Akbarpur. He had a simple philosophy: love everyone, serve everyone and remember god. He got the name of Neem Karoli after an incident in a village called Neeb Karori. He was travelling in a train without ticket and was kicked out of the train. The moment he stepped down, the train stopped moving. Realising that the sadhu is no ordinary guy, he was invited back into the train on two conditions: a station be built in the village and sadhus be treated with respect. Once baba got back in the train, it started moving again. He was considered an incarnation of Hanuman and said I don’t do anything, Hanumanji does everything. He also did miracles like turning water into ghee, holding back the floods, saved cornea, being at two places, swallowing LSD, curing a spleen, saving devotee’s lives etc. He built famous temples like the Kainchi Dham, the Hanuman Setu, Hanumangarhi etc.
Ram Dass (a Harvard professor), Krishna Das, Julia Roberts, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg etc all visited Kainchi Dham of Maharaj Ji and are huge devotees of him. Maharaj Ji had made his ashram in Kainchi Dham of Nainital. Maharaj Ji had performed uncountable miracles like omnisciency, mind reading, getting back the son of a barber, saving Krishna Das, teleportation and a lot of books have been written on him. Even today, a lot of people visit Kainchi Dham, Maharaj Ji died in Vrindavan in 1973. He, however never claimed to be an incarnation of Hanuman and rather his servant. He had married Ram Beti Sharma and a daughter named Girija Devi. Maharaj Ji built over 108 Hanuman temples in India, the Taos temple in Mexico and in every ashram of his, there’s a Hanuman temple as he was a huge devotee of Hanuman. Maharaj Ji has many devotees in foreign like in London and America. Recently a movie named Hanuman Ansh based on the life of Maharaj Ji was released and it unexpectedly became a super hit.
