Gatte Ki Subzi

For this particular dish, you don’t require fresh vegetables, and that’s why it is so special. This dish is prepared from gram flour dumplings and tasty & spicy gravy made of buttermilk, tomato, and some spices. To witness its real taste, eat this dish with rice and roti.

Mawa Kachori

It is basically a fried pastry that comes filled with a mouthwatering mixture of nuts and mawa. It is a great sweet dish and used during every festival. Comes dipped with sugar syrup, this dish is quite popular in Jodhpur.

Mirchi Vada

When it comes to trying out a mouth-watering Rajasthani snack, you should go for Mirchi vada. This dish is prepared from the pepper that comes with potato filling, and then the pepper is deep-fried. This dish tastes best with eaten with tomato chutney. This is quite common in Rajasthan.

Ker Sangri

Sangri is one type of long bean that can be found in the desert area, basically in Barmer and Jaisalmer. On the other hand, Ker is one type of wild berry that tastes peppery and tangy. Earlier, people used to cook these vegetables in vegetable oil by adding spices and ate with bajra rotis. But today you can find them prepared with buttermilk and water. Such vegetables can survive during drought.

What are some mind-blowing facts about Hawaa Mahal in Rajasthan?

 

  1. Hawa Mahal' means 'Palace of Winds', attributed to the breeze that circulates through the building's 950 windows.

2. The palace was built so that the ladies of the Royal Court could observe life on the street below without being seen.

3. The architecture of the Hawa Mahal is a unique combination of Rajput and Mughal styles. The most famous building of the Mughal empire is the Taj Mahal.

4.While not tall in comparison to the world's skyscrapers, the Hawa Mahal is actually considered one of the world's tallest buildings...

5. The Hawa Mahal's windows were designed to replicate the honeycomb of a beehive, which allows fresh air into the building without anyone inside being visible to the outside world.

What should every Indian know about Rajasthan and the people of Rajasthan?

 

  1. Not only Marwari people live in Rajasthan, people from Mewari, Hadoti, Shekhawati and different regions live here.
  2. We do not use camels to travel from one place to another, we also have vehicles.
  3. We don't eat Dal Baati Churma every day.
  4. We don't marry in childhood; this was the case a long time ago. Even then, marriages were still common in childhood, but daughters-in-law always went to their in-laws' house only after they reached 18 or 20 years of age.
  5. Rajasthan isn't just desert. Yes, there's the Thar Desert, but also the Aravalli Lakes (Udaipur), and the Sariska (ranthambore).
  6. Yes, the temperature here is quite hot during the summer, but during the winter, Rajasthan becomes one of India's coldest states.The temperature in Mount Abu comes very close to 0°.

7. Not every Rajasthanis always wear turbans. They are worn only on special occasions, and the old generation were worn daily.

8. Not all Rajasthanis are rich.Here too there are office goers, farmers and shopkeepers.

9. We (girls) love Ghoomar But it is not necessary that there should be Ghoomar dance in every wedding.

10. Yes, there is a practice of veil here, it is only for respect, at present there is no force on anyone.My mother, grandmother and aunt all wear veil but there are some occasions like marriage etc. where they do not wear veil, so it is not necessary for anything like that.

11. And most importantly, we have plenty of water here, so much so that you can take a bath three times a day.

There is no need to great us saying “Khamma Ghani Sa ”(it was a Royal Salutation) … you can say hello,hi,Salam,Jai Hind, Namaskar…. if you wanna make us feel special you can say ”Jai Sri Krishna”, ”Radhe Radhe”, “Jai Sri Radhe”, ”Ram Ram Sa”,”Sri Sita Ram”, “Eklingnath ki Jai”, “Govinddevju ki Jai”, “Jai ___ (name of presiding deity of the area)____” or your favourite “Jai Sri Ram” & “Har Har Mahadev”.
  2. We dont add “Sa” everywhere like salt & spice…. Ji Sri is also used.
