Jasmine Dhunna, who rose to immense popularity with Veerana and remains unforgettable to audiences even today, later went missing from the limelight.
Prior to Veerana, she was seen in Sarkari Mehmaan and Divorce. After Veerana, she was seen in a “blink and you miss” sort of appearance in the film, Hatim Tai. The most persistent rumour of her sudden disappearance is associated with the underworld angle.
Her beauty and bold image allegedly attracted unwanted attention from people linked to Mumbai underworld in the late 80s.
The most circulated rumour allegedly linked her to Dawood Ibrahim. According to rumours circulating in film magazines of that era, he developed an alleged interest in her after watching the film and there were alleged reports of threatening calls and pressure tactics by his men.
Another version says that she stopped leaving her house and fear made her leave Bollywood and India to settle in the US. Some reports also claim that she was forced underground.
According to the Ramsays (producers Tulsi & Shyam), producers were lining up to sign her but Jasmine did not want to do more films and asked them not to share her number. Even Deepak Ramsay said that he could not confirm that the rumours were true.
However, nothing is confirmed as there has never been any evidence, police case or statement from Jasmine herself to substantiate it.
Also, there are multiple media reports citing Shyam Ramsay’s 2017 interview to Hindustan Times. According to it, Shyam Ramsay mentioned that Jasmine voluntarily retired from films after her mother's demise.
Recently, her co-star Hemant Birje revealed that Jasmine lives in the US/Versova and chose complete privacy. She never even talks about Veerana.
