Why did Tina Munim choose to leave Bollywood and marry Anil Ambani, and how has her life transformed since then?

 Tina Munim was one of the beautiful and glamourous leading actresses of Bollywood in the late 1970s and 80s. When her filmy career was still at a good condition she quit acting and gave prominence to her personal life.

Tina Munim and Anil Ambani, for the first time met with each other in an event when their mutual friend introduced them in Philadelphia. In their first meeting they didn't talk much, again a few months later they were introduced again by Tina's nephew, since then they became closer.

In fact is that Tina Munim initialy rejected Anil Ambani when he proposed her for the first time. During the talk show with Simi Garewal, she spoke about her first meet with Anil Ambani, “ The first time I met him , I was quite stuck by his simplicity, I found him very upfront and genuine. He was unlike the other men I had met because most of the guys I met were from films. Also we spoke the same language, not literally but we were brought up in a similar manner.”

Anil's parents Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani opposed their relationship due to Tina Munim's filmy background, her life style and her connection with the glamourous world. But with great efforts Anil Ambani convinced them by telling that Tina is a simple girl but it did not work. Due to family pressure they didn't talk with each other for 3- 4 years.

Later Tina Munim moved to the US. They lost their connection, but the duo again had come into contact when Anil Ambani reached out the place following the earthquake in Los Angeles.

Finally Anil was successful in convincing his family for their marriage. Tina Munim got married on 2nd February, 1991 with Anil Ambani, the younger son of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries and she became Tina Ambani.

The duo got married in a traditional Gujarati style.

Tina Munim's filmy career had lasted for 13 years as a leading actress.

Her career was still in a good condition when she got retired from acting. In a talk show with Simi Garewal she said about quitting acting, “Sometimes I feel that I left films too soon too, but then I felt that there was a lot more to the world that I wanted to explore and experience and not just stick to movies,. I decided to quit . I never regretted it. I never wanted to go back ever.”

After marriage Tina Munim got devoted to her family life, she became a mother for their first son Jai Anmol in December 1991. Their second son Jai Anshul was born in September 1995.

Tina Munim also got engaged with other activities:

She is the chairperson of the Harmony Art Foundation which supports Indian artists and their work. In 1995 she organised the first Harmony Art Show to encourage the young artists.

Since 2008 she has served on the board of trustees of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, which is the oldest continuously operating museum in the US.

She has served on the advisory board of National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai and the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

She has been actively associated with several welfare activities such as Aseema, an NGO engaged in the rehabilitation of street children and the restoration of Elephanta Island, a World Heritage Site near Mumbai with the Archeological survey of India and UNESCO.

In 2004 she established an elder welfare organization, Harmony for Silvers Foundation.

Under her leadership in 2009, she launched the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute (KIDAH) in Mumbai and she serves here as the chairperson. This is the only hospital in Mumbai to receive accreditation from the NABHNABLJCL (Joint Commission International, USA) and CAP (College of American Pathologists, USA).

When referring to her filmy career in brief:

Tina Munim made her acting debut as a leading actress in 1978 with Dev Anand's film Des Pardes. The other films in which she worked with Dev Anand are Lootmaar and Man Pasand.

Before becoming an actress in 1975 she won the title Femina Teen Princess India and she represented India at Miss Teenage Intercontinental contest in Aruba and she was crowned as a second runner-up.

Some of her notable popular films are Basu Chatterjee's Baaton Baaton Mein opposite Amol PalekarKarz opposite Rishi Kapoor and Souten opposite Rajesh Khanna.

Her screenpresence with Rajesh Khanna was very popular, the duo acted in around 10 films. There were rumours about their close friendship in between 1980 to 1987.

Tina Munim last appeared in Jigarwala opposite Anil Kapoor which was released in 1991.

Tina Ambani, with her husband Anil Ambani and children is residing in a 17 storeyed home called Abode, located at Pali Hill, Mumbai. It's a 70 mts tall tower, spreading at the area of 16,000 sqft, worth Rs. 5000 crore.

Her elder son Jai Anmol got married with Khrisha Shah in 2022.

According to reports Tina Ambani‘s estimated networth is Rs. 2,331 crore. Her journey from Tina Munim to Tina Ambani is very successful. Since marriage she is leading a happy luxurious life with Anil Ambani.
