What are some interesting facts which are not commonly known?

Some unknown facts about - deepest point in the world - MARIANA TRENCH

Location: It is located in the Pacific ocean, west of Philippines and near Guam(US).

It is whopping 11 KM DEEP, measures about 2,550 km long and 69 km wide.

If Mount Everest (highest peak in the earth at 8.848 km) were dropped into the trench at this point, its peak would still be over 2 kilometres underwater. OMG!!

More people have been to the moon than have explored the Mariana Trench. For every 10 metres you go down the water, pressure increases by 1 bar, which means that when you reach the Mariana Trench the pressure would have reached 1,100 bar.

We, human beings and terrestrial organisms have adapted to live in atmospheric pressure (at 1 bar) only. So, if a human goes there, your lungs, tissues and skin would rupture and implode, which means you would be thrown down into pieces.

No sunlight enters the deepest point in the earth and even on a bright sunny day, it is mid-night there. Temperature usually hoovers around 1–2 ° C.

Still, it is found microbes and few fishes have emerged living in those harsh conditions.

Since, 1960 four descents have been achieved, both manned and unmanned with specialised instruments and submarines which can sustain the extreme pressure conditions.

You can also see this below video of James Cameron (one among four descents) to the Challenger deep - Mariana Trench.

Hope, you found this information interesting.
