Which records in cricket are unlikely to be broken ever?

Getting out, after scoring Triple Centuries (in tests ), on the same date twice!!

There are many records which are unlikely to be broken because of the magnitude of it. Well, this one is going to be much more difficult to break for sure.

Scoring a triple century in test cricket is not at all a common feat. Only 30 triple centuries have been scored till date in the entire test cricket history ( by 26 different batsmen ). The frequency of a batsman scoring a Test triple century is slightly less than that of a bowler taking a Test hatrick, according to wikipedia.

And,

For the same batsman to score 2 triple centuries in his career is obviously a rarer phenomenon. Only 4 players have achieved this landmark in tests, namely, Donald Bradman(Australia) , Brian Lara(West Indies), Chris Gayle(West Indies) and Virender Sehwag (India).

And then,

To score them is one thing but to get out on the same dates after doing so !!. Well, it is some coincidence, isn’t it ?

Date : March 29

And,

The man who scored these peculiar triples??

None other than the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’, Virender Sehwag.

The first one came against Pakistan at Multan in 2004. The test began on 28 Mar 2004 and sehwag reached his triple after lunch on Day 2 , before losing his wicket on 309.

Date he got out : March 29, 2004.

India eventually won the match by an innings and 52 runs, thanks to Viru’s maiden triple !

The second one was against a world class opposition in South Africa. The test began on March 26, 2008 and South Africa were the first to bat. They posted a huge total of 540 before getting all out near the end of day 2. Sehwag scored 284 runs the following day and scored his 2nd triple, becoming only the fourth player to do so. In the first session of Day 4, while on 319 Sehwag was caught at slip, only to get a standing ovation from the Chennai crowd, who were thoroughly entertained.

Date he got out: March 29, 2008

India had to wait for more than 12 years to see someone other than Sehwag to score a triple century for the nation. Karun nair recently scored a triple century against England, becoming only the second Indian to achieve the feat !

Given the rarity of a triple century in test matches and the strange nature of this record, I think Virender Sehwag may remain as the only player to score 2 triple hundreds and get out on the same date in both of them, for years to come.

Long live, The Nawab Of Najafgarh !!
