It is 100 Km long and the width comes down to 17 Km at one point.Forget war, any major natural disaster in that region could cut off entire North East from the rest of India. The Siliguri corridor is the sweetest spot for illegal immigration, smuggling and human trafficking.

It is true that India now has strong relations with Nepal and Bangladesh, but no one knows what might happen in next 100 years.
