Where is Bollywood actress Vimi of Humraaz 1967 fame?

Being a married woman and a mother of two children actress Vimi had made her debut in 1967 film Humraaz under the banner of B. R. Chopra along with 2 top stars Raj Kumar and Sunil Dutt she had appeared n the super hit love triangle film Humraaz.

She was already married to hardware businessman Shiv Agarwal and had 2 children when Chopra had spotted a well dressed Vimi in a party hosted by music director Ravi. Chopra planned to cast Vimi in his upcoming film Humraaz as he was in search of new face and he discussed with Ravi on this matter.

Ravi told Vimi about this, she thought about this for 3 weeks, she didn't have one good reason to say no. But still she wanted moral support to accept this offer, but that support she couldn't get from her family. After screen test she signed for the film, but it caused a break within her family. Her parents and her in laws maintained a distance from her and her husband too.

She had no acting experience so Chopra asked veteran actor Manmohan Krishna to train her.

The shooting of Hamraaz faced troubles when Vimi and her husband didn’t go for the last outdoor shoot in Darjeeling until she was released from her exclusive contract with BR Films which had stated that she cannot sign any other film untill Hamraaz is completed, so Chopra had no other choice but to accept their demand.

So Chopra cancelled his condition in the contract, which had prohibited her to engage in other films until this project is finished and got her to finish his film Humraaz. Finally the film became a superhit.

After that Chopra didn't cast her in any of his future films as she had compelled him to do what she asked for. This had become a major drawback in her filmy career.

In 1967 picture Post B. R. Chopra described her as, “Intelligent, educated and grasps things very quickly. Vimi fitted the role perfectly and brought in the maturity that was needed for the role.”

Vimi had become a style icon. Her photoshoots were appeared in every popular magazines including Filmfare in 1968. In the begining she had stated that money was not the reason for her joining films.

Vimi started to get more roles, she raised her salary also. Stars like Shashi Kapoor wanted to work with her. She was known for her glamour looks only, not for acting.

She was the leading lady in the film Aabroo (1968) with Deepak Kumar after Humraaz, but couldn't witness success at the box office. She acted along with Shashi Kapoor in Patanga (1971) which also failed. After successive flop films her photoshoots for magazines also reduced. In 1973 she appeared in National Award winning Punjabi film Nanak Nam Jahaz Hai. . In 1974 film Vachan she used to wear different costumes for every scene which she acted opposite Shashi Kapoor.

Finally the offers she was getting were reduced because any of her films were nott success. Her husband and actor Ajit had too much interfered in her filmy career and made her to sign for any kind of film. As per reports her husband abused her and forced her to make adjustments with producers to get offers. Vimi was fed up with her husband had left him and made friendship with Mr. Jolly who wanted to cast her in a film.

But none of her films were successful. She lost her stardom very soon. In total she had acted hardly in around 10 films. She started a textile business in Calcutta called Vimi Textiles that too faced loss miserably. She failed in both professional and personal life. She eventually surrendered to alcohol to get relief from the stress and she began to lose her beauty also which was the main plus point with her.

Due to alcoholism her liver got damaged and she died due to liver disease in a general ward in 1977 at a very young age of just 33 or 34 in Nanavat hospital. Only 9 people are said to have attended her funeral. Her body was taken to the crematorium In a thela hand cart. No major newspapers covered her death news. The obituary column in Indian Express reported how everyone had abondened her including her family, friends and film industry people.

Vimi had appered in her last film Krodhi which got released in 1981, four years after her death in 1977.

Vimi was a Punjabi Sikh girl born in 1943, she got training in singing, she loved to act in plays and she had regularly participated in AIR Bombay Children's program. She had done graduation in Psychology.

Though she was good looking, worked hard, she couldn't get success. Her Professional career and personal life both witnessed a big tragedy. Fate didn't support her in any angle to cope up with the life. Likewise her life had ended in a miserable tragic way.
