Best Debut Filmfare is a validation for actors so that they can be signed for other films. I think this is the worst category of Filmfare awards for multiple reasons-
Firstly, forget excpetional, this award was given to actors for giving atrocious performance. Fardeen Khan won the Best Debut for Prem Aggan (ahead of Mukesh Rishi for China Gate), Sooraj Pancholi for Hero (ahead of Vicky Kaushal for Masaan), Ayesha Takia for Tarzan the Wonder Car (ahead of Gayatri Joshi for Swades), Ananya Pandey for Student of the Year etc.
Secondly, how can actors win Best debut award for films which are not even their debut. We give established actors from other industries best debut award for working in Hindi films. Otherwise a National award winning actor Dhanush wins the best debut award for Ranjhana. Asin got a best debut award for Ghajini for playing the same character she played in the Tamil version. Fawad Khan won best debut for Khoobsurat and Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab, Nandita Das won filmfare best debut in 1999 even though she was working in films since 1987. An actor working in films for more than a decade wins the best Debut Filmfare. What a joke.
Third, where is the representation of indie films, art films in such awards. Almost all the awards for the best debut went to mainstream films while some really good art movies were ignored. We will award mass commercial flops like Hero and SOTY2 and Tarzan but fail to award award winning debut performances like Konkana Sen for Mr and Mrs Iyer, Vikrant Massey for Lootera, or Rashi Khanna for Madras Cafe etc.
