What was Dhritarashtra’s karma that he lost his 98 children?

 “KARMA”

Yes, Karma of Dhritarashtra led him to lose all his son. I have read two stories about it both are almost similar.

After losing all his sons in a war Dhritrastra bowed down before Lord Krishna and prayed. “Oh, Lord! There cannot be anyone in this world who is as unfortunate as me. I was born blind, I never saw my children’s faces and I don’t know how they looked like. I never did anything wrong in my life, I was limited by blindness. Why did I still have to go through this terrible punishment? What wrong did I do?”

Then Lord Krishna explained the law of karma to Dhritarashtra, He said,” Rajan, There are three types of Karma-
— Kriyamana Karma
— Sanchita Karma
— Prarabdha Karma

Kriyamana Karma is what we do in everyday life and the result we face in a few days. Rest two karmas are related to each other, They stay and get accumulated. Prarabdha Karma is part of sanchit karma that means a collection of past lives karma.

After describing the karmas Lord Krishana gives a divine vision to him to see his past 50 births. Dhritrashtra discovered that 50 births back he was a ruthless hunter and once just to have some fun he threw a burning net on a tree full of birds. Thus causing 100 young birds to be burnt to death. While the remaining birds managed to escape, they became blind due to the scorching heat caused by this fire.

Due to the effect of Sanchita Karma, he was destined to remain blind in this Life and also lose his 100 sons.

After listening to Krishna’s enlightening explanation, Dhritrashtra inquired “Krishna why did I not get punished in that birth itself, or the next birth, for the great sin that I had committed? Why now?”

Lord Krishna smiled and said,” Your Karma had to wait for an opportune time for 50 Births. During which time you could earn and accumulate enough pious deeds to attain the merit of being born a king and have 100 sons in one lifetime. The Sanchita Karma accumulated over the last 50 births would influence your life as Prarabdha Karma and could then instantaneously confront you with the effects of that evil action.”

According to the second story, Dhrtrastra was a hunter in one of his previous birth. One day when he was trying to kill a bird, the bird flew away. He tried so many times to kill it but every time it escaped. So just to seek revenge he climbed the tree and broke the nest of that bird. There were a hundred eggs in it. After this, he took more births as a tapas and did many pious things so he can get a hundred son in one of his birth. This is the reason he born blind and never saw his children as the bird never did.

Whichever version of the story is right the important thing is that-

Karma is the divine law of cause & effect by which every thought, word & deed justly return to us in this or future life. We learn to be compassionate, knowing that each experience, good or bad, is the self-created reward of prior expressions of free will.

Why did Nasiruddin Shah never watch his own acted Bollywood movie "Karma"?

As an actor Naseerudin Shah is known for intense and art-driven cinema. He has always been critical for mainstream cinema and often showed lack of interest for the same.

Karma released in 1986 and in the late 80s Naseer was balancing between high-octane commercial films and parallel cinema.

However, he stated that he never watched Karma despite starring in it as it was too long and he couldn't sit through the entire movie.

Besides this, there was also a fallout between him and director Subhash Ghai. Naseer agreed to do the film after being promised significant screen-time alongside Dilip Kumar.

However during production, he was upset to find out that many of his scenes with Dilip Kumar were filmed separately using stand-ins.

Karma is the only film directed by Subhash Ghai with Naseerudin Shah as the part of the starcast.

What’s the most brutal case of karma you’ve ever witnessed?

YASMEEN JOSEPH’S KARMA BITES

In the scandalous world of Bollywood, an encounter between two actors, Kumar Gaurav and Mandakini, ignited a tale of rejection and scorching revenge.

It was the 1980s, and Kumar Gaurav, the industry's golden boy, was riding high on the success of his debut film "Love Story" (1981). He was the heartthrob of millions. His father, the great Rajender Kumar financed and directed the film. This kid never understood that that this success was given to him on a platter.

He was offered a film titled, Shirin Farhad by eminent producer, Dinesh Bansal. Kumar Gaurav refused to sign the film when he came to know that Dinesh had planned to pair him with a new actress, Yasmeen Joseph. He said, “I am such a successful hero, who the hell is this Yasmeen Pasmeen, Joseph Poseph? I will not work with unknown girls “.

The film never saw the light of the day. Shirin Farhad was shelved and Yasmeen Joseph went back to her hometown with shattered dreams and tears of rejection. She was a nobody and returned to her mediocre life. Her life could go no lower than this.

But there is always a sunrise even after the darkest of nights. Sometime later, Yasmeen Joseph returned to Bombay again and was selected by the great Raj Kapoor as the lead actor to deliver sizzling performances in "Ram Teri Ganga Maili" (1985). Her beauty and skills set the industry ablaze and she becoming the most sought-after actress. Yasmeen Joseph was known as Mandakini in her films. She became a national sensation. A white saree under a waterfall would never be the same again !!!

Meanwhile, Kumar Gaurav's career began to plummet deeper with every film. His films flopped. The public rejected his films. Desperate for a comeback, Kumar Gaurav suggested Mandakini’s name to a producer of his films to be paired opposite to him. He now wanted to ride piggyback, on the success of Mandakini.

The producer approached Yasmeen Joseph (Mandakini) and said ,

“Madam, there is an offer from a hero to cast you opposite to him. Please accept. I will pay you 100 percent more than what you got for your last film !!!!”

Mandakini asked, “ Who is this hero who wants to work with me?”

“Kumar Gaurav”, came the reply.

Mandakini laughed. She took a sip Kadak chai and replied with a twinkle in her eyes ,

“Sir, I will definitely do this film. I will do it for free. No money. But change the hero!!!! I will not work with any Kumar Bimar, Gaurav Kaurav !!!!!!!”

Karma bit Kumar Gaurav.

The unknown Yasmeen Joseph rejected by Kumar Gaurav went on to become Mandakini and got her revenge.

Mandakini's rejection spread like wildfire, the industry whispered about the scorching revenge she had exacted. Kumar Gaurav's downfall served as a cautionary tale about the dangers of arrogance, while Mandakini's triumph proved that talent, determination, and a hint of seduction can conquer all odds.

Karma is a woman scorned and though she has a sweet innocent face, definitely bites back.
