Mahaprasad is special blessing from Lord Jagannath.
Preparation : There are 600l brahmin cooks known as Suaras ; who prepare Mahaprasad for lord.
Mahaprasad is cooked in nearly 750 earthen stoves by nearly brahmin cooks.
56 : They select allowed food items and cook 56 food items for Lord Jagannath ji.
These include vegetable curries , lentils, rice , breads , snacks, sweets.
These items are kept in nearly 1000 earthen pots.
These are purely vegetarian food items. These consists of wet (Sankhudi) and dry (Sukhila) items.
Naivedya : These items are first offered to Lord Balbhadra , Mata Subhadra and Jagannath ji.
Then , these special items are offered to Goddess Bimla devi.
Bhog : Then only, Mahaprasad becomes Naivedya Bhog.
A part of it is distributed and rest of it is sold to devotees at Anand Bazaar.
Facts : Mahaprasad is enjoyed by all sitting in a row.
These food items are sold at nominal price.
All earthen pots are destroyed daily after being used.
It is a life time experience !
