Mrunal Thakur made her international debut with an Indo-American film ‘Love Sonia’ made by ‘Life Of Pi’ producer David Womark.
The actress played the title role in the film that brings to light the issue of global human trafficking. She plays a village girl, who is trapped in the global sex trade in the film that also stars the likes of Freida Pinto and Demi Moore.
The young actress reportedly stayed near a brothel in Kolkata to study the body language of the prostitutes for the film.

Following her Bollywood dream, Mrunal auditioned for many films and out of them was Salman Khan starrer ‘Sultan. However, things did not work out for her.
Also, after watching her performance in the ‘Love Sonia’, Aamir Khan, was blown away by her talent. The actor apparently offered her ‘Thugs of Hindostan’. He wanted her to play the role which is not being played by Fatima Shaikh. However, this time it was reportedly Mrunal who turned it down.
According to reports, ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ being a YRF film, she did not want to sign a three-film contract with the production house. According to the actress, it would have reportedly affected her international career.
The actress has also been seen in a commercial with Ranveer Singh whom she reportedly describes as "wonderful human being, energetic, and down-to-earth".
She had once stated that she wants to essay a character with mental difficulties because it's an extremely challenging role for an actor.

Mrunal Thakur was rumoured to be dating television writer Sharad Chandra. He has shows like ‘Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi...’, ‘Kasauti Zindagi Kay’, ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Fear Files’, ‘Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal’ and ‘Haunted Nights’ to his credit. The duo also reportedly took part in television’s dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye’. The chemistry and spark between the two was also the talking point of the show.
However, the alleged couple has now reportedly parted ways.

While studying in college she was roped in a television show ‘Mujhse Kuchh Kehti...Yeh Khamoshiyaan’ opposite Mohit Sehgal. She played the character of Gauri Bhosle in the show.
After that, she got a chance to play the role of a journalist on ‘Har Yug Mein Ayega Ek Arjun’. She also hosted a Hindi play called ‘Do Fool Chaar Mali’ along with co-host Barun Sobti, which was directed by Manoj Verma and ‘Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?’ team members and it took place in Dubai on 20 April 2013.
