Summary of our ODI situation before we move on to T20 fever.

I personally feel that the condition of India in ODIs is not as bad as it in tests, but we are definitely having a downfall and GG is still making mistakes.

I respect the fact that GG has continued to back Nitish Kumar and Harshit, as both are paying dividends.

I also do not mind Siraj coming back to our ODI setup.

However, our top order dependency is very much visible.

Hardik and Bumrah coming back will definitely boost us, but there's still some decisions to make.

  • Dropping Jadeja - They have to play a proper batter, at this point you can't defend his selection because he's literally being used like a part timer. And i am not sure that he can start from scratch again at this age, let him shine in tests for us, but not in ODIs. If you must play a spin all rounder, Axar is your best bet, he was good as a batter as well in CT. Otherwise, KL at 5 and Hardik at 6, so Nitish Kumar at 7, and if not him, someone like Rinku Singh.
  • Having backups for Gill and Shreyas - I am NOT suggesting to drop them, but Shreyas is coming off as a little edgy vs pace even after his overall improvements. Gill’s best format is ODIs, but I feel we need a backup for him. Feel like Gaikwad can be perfect as a backup for both the players. Apart from Gaikwad, maybe Jaiswal but Jaiswal doesn't come off as trustworthy in this format (yes i know he hit a century in his last game but he was back to poor form in domestic cricket).
  • Fixing your pacers - Bumrah is obviously a no brainer. Feels like Arshdeep has also cemented his place as the second pacer. Feels like Harshit Rana is now our team’s third pacer which is actually fabulous given how talented he is and how he can bat well. The only thing is that, he won't play the role he is playing now, he'll be first change it Bumrah and Arshdeep are there, so in such a scenario, he has to improve, because he has conceeded runs after the first powerplay. If he's not able to do that, then we'll have to revert to Siraj or Prasidh
  • Rohit stepping up - I am not judging him on the basis of one series, especially a player of his calibre, but it feels like he's in two minds about his batting approach and I feel he should play like he was, aggressively. Maybe he wants to stay longer, maybe the restricted batting depth has taken a toll on his mind, we don't know, but he has to stick with one approach if we have to become the best ODI side.
