Which records in cricket are unlikely to be broken ever?

While cricket has evolved dramatically over the years, certain historic achievements have been placed completely out of reach for modern players. Changes in sports science, heavily packed schedules across three distinct formats, and more result-oriented strategies mean that some milestones will likely remain eternal.

The following records stand as towering landmarks that are virtually impossible to break:

Sir Don Bradman’s Test Batting Average (99.94):No one else has ever come close to this level of freakish consistency over a sustained career. Bradman scored 6,996 runs across 52 Test matches, missing a perfect average of 100.00 after getting dismissed for a duck in his final career innings. To put this into perspective, modern elite batsmen are considered legendary if they maintain a career average of 50 to 55.

Muttiah Muralitharan’s 800 Test Wickets: With the modern cricketing calendar heavily prioritizing T20 leagues over long-form Test matches, bowlers simply do not play enough Test cricket anymore to sustain a career long enough to threaten this number. The Sri Lankan spin wizard accumulated a staggering 800 wickets in just 133 Tests (and 1,347 wickets across all international formats).

Jim Laker’s 19 Wickets in a Single Test Match: Since a team can only take a maximum of 20 wickets in a game, a modern bowler would have to perfectly replicate Laker's performance or take all 20 wickets to break the record—an administrative and statistical anomaly that will likely never happen again. In 1956, England's Jim Laker pulled off the near-impossible against Australia at Old Trafford, picking up 9 wickets in the first innings and all 10 in the second.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 International Centuries: Achieving 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI hundreds required Tendulkar to play at the highest level for an astonishing 24 years. Given the physical burnout rate of contemporary cricketers playing non-stop franchise and international cricket, matching this longevity and century count is widely considered an impossible peak to climb.

These figures belong to unique eras of the sport, making them permanent fixtures in cricket history.

Who is the most under rated cricketer of Indian cricket team?

 Sourav ganguly.

Only remembered as a great captain with a lot of aggression.

When it comes to batting, he is called the God on off side but none of his shot is ever mentioned. But look at this:

  1. A six over long on: One of his favorite shot to fast bowlers.

  1. Swept the ball: Loved to play it against spinners

  1. Superb piece of bowling: You could never take him light. Had 100 ODI wickets with an economy of about 5 rpo

  1. His test average looks average with a figure of 42.17 but mind you it never was below 40 at any point of his career.

3rd fastest to 6000 ODI runs ( after Viv and Virat), 2nd fastest to 7000 ODI runs ( after AB De Villiers), fastest to 8000 ODI runs, fastest to 9000 ODI runs, 2nd fastest to 10000 ODI runs.

Looks like a lot of qualities is overshadowed by another quality of his own.

Edit: looks like a lot of people don't agree with me. They are right in what they mentioned in the comments section. My point is simply that Sourav Ganguly deserves much more respect as a batsmen than he is getting to the day. No doubt his captaincy, and they aggression which changed the Indian cricket, will be remembered before anything else but while mentioning the batsmen, I would still prefer Sourav in the list at somewhere near the top. He bowls decent spells as well.

Thus I would only like to say that don't exclude him when you are thinking of any ODI team.

What are some lesser known but interesting facts about cricket in India?

Kids from the 90’s must be familiar with this person. He's Ajit Agarkar , Former Indian cricketer.

Here are some of his bowling stats -

  • He represented India in 191 ODIs and
Took 288 wickets with an average of 28.85.
  • Third highest wicket taker for India in ODIs.
  • He broke the record of Denis Lili who took fastest 50 wickets. He kept that record until Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka broke it in 2009.
The stats mentioned above are enough to establish him as a magnificent bowler. But very few may know that he was good with the bat too.

Now here are some facts which you may find quite surprising Vis-a-Vis his bating skills -

  • He's the fastest Indian to score 50 in the ODIs and took just 21 balls to achieve it.
  • He also hit a century at the"Mecca of Cricket" The Lord's against England which is a big feat and a dream to many batsmen. Unfortunately even Sachin Tendulkar couldn't hit a century at Lord's.
  • He was part of the Indian team which won the inaugural T20 world cup in 2007. He will forever be remembered as one of the wasted talents of Indian cricket.

What are the best cricket rivalries of your favorite cricketers?

 Start:

What are the best cricket rivalries of your favorite cricketers?

It all began on July 17th, 2014.

During the 2nd test match of the India-England series in 2014, the English bowlers breathed out fire as they removed India's openers for low scores like 24 & 7 respectively. It was then that the young Virat Kohli joined Pujara at the middle, trying to redeem himself after his horrid show in the first test match.

Kohli looked solid as he amassed 25 runs off 34 balls with consecutive fours. He was all set for a big innings…

When of course, the 31-year old big man named James Anderson, came to bowl.

First ball of the 31st over

The ball flew into the safe hands of Matt Prior. Phew! Jimmy gets Kohli! Yet another disappointing run for Kohli as he departs for a mere 25. Jimmy on the other hand, gets his second fish!

In the third test too, Jimmy Anderson removed Kohli when he looked completely settled, standing tall at 39* (74). Jimmy yet again spoiled Kohli's party, as the birthday boy conquered the third test.

In the fourth test, Jimmy got Kohli for 2/2 times.

Courtesy Anderson's heroics, England scripted a historic series win of 3–1 against India, after getting an early setback in the 2nd test.

While it was the rise of Anderson, it was the fall of Kohli. Seeing his horrid numbers throughout the series, one could predict that it was probably the end of Kohli in world cricket.

4 years went by.

Again in 2018, India toured England for a five-match test series.

Well, I guess by such a long time Kohli must have bid farewell to world cricket courtesy his flop show. Right?

Not at all.

Jimmy threw Kohli to a pack of wolves.

But

Kohli came back leading the pack.

Kohli failed, Kohli learnt, Kohli rose back. He achieved immense success through the period of 2015–2016–2017 and now even led Team India.

Kohli's performance throughout the 2018 English tour was way ahead of just amazing. The best test batsman of that time left the English bowlers clueless.

Jimmy Anderson failed to get Kohli out even once in that series!

However, Jimmy had the last laugh as England yet again bossed India on their home soil, and took a comfortable series win of 4–1.

2021 again saw Anderson taking revenge from Kohli. Anderson hunted upon Kohli a number of times.

The two legends were so far rivals by play and sweet by nature. But this 2021 tour even saw Jimmy and Kohli getting engaged in verbal banters.

Jimmy got Kohli, but Kohli got England as India this time didn't let England enjoy yet another win on home soil, and butchered them 2–1 with the 5th test match getting cancelled.

This rivalry

Where the momentum swung like a pendulum

This rivalry

Where the two legends engaged in verbal banters and appreciated each other too

This rivalry

Where two of the greatest were involved

Came to an end in September, 2021.

Sure, fans hype the Kohli-Smith rivalry, Smith-Archer rivalry, a lot. But the Kohli-Jimmy rivalry will forever remain special for me, and all the others. It will be cherished throughout.

As the tale of the two living legends.

What are the biggest myths about cricket?

Myth #1: Whenever Sachin Tendulkar scored a century, India mostly lost the match.

Fact: In the 49 ODI matches Tendulkar scored a century, India won 33 and lost only 14 with two no results match. This means India won 67% of the ODI matches when SRT scored a century.

In tests, out of the 51 centuries SRT has, India have won/drawn 40 of them! Which means India won 79% of the test matches when SRT scored a century.

Myth #2: Sourav Ganguly has never won a major ICC tournament.

Fact: Ganguly did win a major ICC tournament. Way back in 2002, India and Sri Lanka were crowned as joint winners of the Champions Trophy.

Myth #3: Only four Indians →Uthappa, Kohli, Rahul and Gaikwad have won the orange cap in the IPL.

Fact: Tendulkar won the orange cap too in IPL 2010.

Myth #4: The highest number of runs conceded in an over is 37.

Fact: In a domestic match of New Zealand, 77 runs were conceded in an over by RH Vance.
