Ramya’s parents are from Mandya, her mother Ranjita is a senior member of Congress Party in Karnataka and R. T. Narayan was her foster father, an industrialist.

After a 7 years hiatus she made her come back to the film industry as a producer by producing the Kannada film Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye in 2023 under her own production house AppleBox Studios.

Their friendship was well known within the political circles when SM Krishna was the CM of Karnataka in between 1999 to 2004. Minister D. K. Shiva Kumar also mentioned that SM Krishna and R. T. Narayan had a friendship of 40 years. Both SM Krishna and RT Narayan encouraged Ramya to join politics. In 2013 R. T. Narayan had passed away due to cardiac arrest and in 2024, SM Krishna had passed away.
