What are some lesser known facts about Bollywood actor Sanjeev Kumar?

 Sanjeev Kumar is the first Indian actor to win a National award for Best Actor for an A (Adult) rated movie, Dastak in 1970.

When Mithun Chakraborty won his first National award for Mrigya in 1976, he was not sure of winning because the final round of voting took place between Mithun for Mrigya and Sanjeev Kumar for Arjun Pandit. Mithun won the National award and Sanjeev Kumar won the Filmfare award that year for best actor.

Sanjeev Kumar played father to many of his heroines which shows his immense versatility of roles and his ability to play any role of any age.

He played father to Jaya Bacchan in Parichay while playing his lover and husband in Anamika and Koshish.

He played father to Maushami Chaterjee in Zindagi while playing his partner in films like Itni si baat and Angoor etc.

He played father to Shabana Azmi in Devata and romanced her in the same film and films like Namkeen.

He played the lover as well as father figure to Sharmila Tagore in Mausam.

He played the grandfather of Padmini Kolhapure in Zindagi and romanced her in Professor ki Padosan.

Which was Sanjeev Kumar's film in which he had nine roles?

 Sanjeev Kumar played nine roles in the film Naya Din Nai Raat which was a remake of Tamil movie Navarathri.

The role was initially pitched up to Dilip Kumar who suggested Sanjeev Kumar for the same.

Sanjeev Kumar plays the nine characters with each character embodying one of the nine rasas (emotions).

The nine roles played by Sanjeev Kumar are of a psychiatrist, a bandit, a leper, a priest/smuggler, a transvestite actor, a wealthy widower, a hunter, a drunken lout and a young man.

It was indeed a challenge to play these multiple roles. Sanjeev Kumar played it convincingly and garnered a lot of praise for the same.

He made each personna unique through his mannerisms and voice and achieved a feat which cemented his legacy as a master of disguise and character acting.
