Also known as Dinornite , it was a gigantic non-flying bird of prey that lived until 1500 in New Zealand.
It became extinct due to the reckless hunting that the natives of the area reserved for it, in search of fur , meat and eggs that the carcasses of the species offered.
It is a subspecies of the Moa , which generally had different sizes, the largest being - in fact - those of the Dinornite .
Specifically, these 'colossuses' measured up to 3.6 metres in height and could weigh up to 300 kg , with one of the
highest
sexual dysmorphisms in favour of the female gender ever recorded in nature (
280% ).
