What is a picture that shows something seemingly mundane, but is incredible when explained?

Allow me to introduce Victoria. She's a beauty, isn't she?

This image was taken by the camera of the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

As beautiful as this picture is, it cannot compare to what it actually contains.

Look at the dark blue dot in the upper left corner. At 10 o'clock.

Do you see him?

No?

What does it look like now?

That's the Opportunity rover. It was deployed on Mars on January 25, 2004.

"Oppy" was supposed to stay on Mars for 90 days and travel 1000 meters.

What was supposed to be 90 days of tedious work, collecting samples and testing, turned into something much bigger.

Fourteen years and 28 miles (approx. 45 km) later, it is one of NASA's most successful endeavors.

The rover lost communication on June 10, 2018, when a Mars-wide storm obscured its position.
