Grey hounds typically hunt by sight. But as a precaution, they coat it with a spice called anise.
Anise is a seed from a Mediterranean plant that can be distilled into an oil. And it's like catnip for dogs. If you take a can of the substance to spray and apply it anywhere, your dog will likely start rubbing himself all over, as if he's lost his mind, his eyes rolling back in pleasure as he tries to cover himself with the scent.
But a more advisable solution would be to get some anise-flavored treats for the dog, instead of making him a slave to a spot on the floor.
Anise can actually be very good for a dog in small doses, calming it down and soothing a stomach ache. Which reminds me of what a puff of marijuana does.
