Raj Kapoor was a very talented actor-director while Pran was so prolific in his negative roles that he carved a niche in Bollywood as the best villian ever. The two appeared together in many films and shared a good relation which ended on a bitter note after the success of Bobby.
Mera Naam Joker was a flop and Raj Kapoor was trying to bounce back with Bobby. Raj Kapoor was going through a bad phase financially. If reports are to be believed Pran agreed to work in Bobby for a token amount of Rs.1 and asked Raj Kapoor to pay him if the film was a success.
Bobby was a super hit and later Raj Kapoor presented a cheque of Rs.1 Lakh to Pran who felt cheated. Pran used to charge some 5–10 Lakh rupees in the 70s which sometimes was much more than the lead actors. Therefore Pran decided that he would never do a film under R. K Banner.
