I'd say this place is one of the creepiest places on the planet...
Do you recognize him?
At its peak, it was the most densely populated place on Earth...
At its peak in 1959, there were 5,259 people here, with a population density of 216,264 people per square mile.
By comparison, Hong Kong in 2011 had a population density of approximately 17,000 people per square mile.
Living conditions were almost like prisons, and families had to share kitchens and sleep in bathrooms.
Although most of the structures were 9 stories high, there were no elevators.
So, people moved around by going up and down very unstable stairs to go from floor to floor and through tunnels to go from one building to another.
This staircase was known as the stairway to hell!
Actually, it is an island that was inhabited between 1887 and 1974 and at one time, it was a coal mine.
It is also the first place in the world to use reinforced concrete to build apartment buildings.
Have you already discovered where this place is?
No? Very well, I'll tell him.
It is an island off the southwest coast of Japan, about nine miles from Nagasaki, and was owned by the Mitsubishi Corporation until 2002.
It's called Hashima Island.
When it was abandoned, all the mining equipment and apartment furniture were left behind. There's even an old, rusty X-ray machine in what used to be the doctor's office.
Do you have the courage to go there?
Well, maybe, there are regular tourist visits to the island for those who like to take pictures of scary abandoned places.
I'm sure I wouldn't want to spend the night there alone!
It was even used as a set in the James Bond movie Skyfall.
Do you recognize it now?
I thought I could!
