Was Karz the only remake of Bimal Roy's Madhumati?

 Bimal Roy's 1958s great film Madhumati became an inspiration and it influenced to make on the same theme of rebirth in several films in the Indian cinema.

In 1976 it was remade in Malayalam cinema with the name Vanadevatha.

Madhumati was based on the theme of rebirth and it was a thrilling, suspense, romantic film. Ritwik Ghatak wrote the screenplay. Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala were in the leading roles alongwith Pran and Jhonny Walker who were in the supporting roles.

Dilip Kumar as Anand a modern guy falls in love with Madhumati, a tribal girl, but they face challenges in their relationship. The film had 11 beautiful evergreen songs like Suhana Safar… Dil Tadap Tadap Ke….and Aaja Re Pardesi…

Madhumati is one of the most influential films in the Indian cinema. The theme of the film is adopted in several films.

The films like Woh Koun Thi? and Bees Saal Baad of 1960s were based on the formula of Madhumati.

The novel and the Hollywood film The Incarnation of Peter Proud in 1975 much influenced by Madhumati's rebirth storyline.

Subhash Ghai directorial, Rishi Kapoor starred film Karz in 1980 was also based on the theme of rebirth. It was a big hit of that time with good musical songs.

Rishi Kapoor's ’Bollywood film Janam Janam in 1988 was also a remake of Madhumati but it failed at the box office.

Film Karan Arjun in 1995 followed the theme of Madhumati.

Some parts and the climax of the 2007 Bollywood film Om Shanti Om was a remake of the film Madhumati which led to a plagiarism accusation from Bimal Roy's daughter Rinki Bhattacharya.

Bimal Roy is one of the finest directors of the Indian cinema. The classic film Mahal of 1949 greatly influenced on Bimal Roy to make Madhumati. He worked as an editor for Ashok Kumar, Madhubala starred Mahal and nearly after a decade he made Madhumati in 1958.

Madhumati won National Film Award for Best Film in Hindi. It also won 9 Filmfare Awards including for Best Film, Best Director, Best Music Director for Salil Chowdhury and Best Female Playback Singer for Lata Mangeshkar. It was the top grossing film of the year. Madhumati remained as one of the greatest memorable films of all time in the Indian cinema.
