Last week I was taking a stroll outside my office and I left my wallet there. My office is in the vicinity of a mall. It had my bank cards, Ids and 2000 AED cash ( around 40,000 INR). I realized it only in the late evening when I couldn’t find it. Worst thing was that I was not able to recall when and where I lost it. I didn’t have much hope as there was a good amount of cash in wallet. But just for the sake of it, I informed my office security, mall security and RTA ( Road transport Authority) to see if they can track the cab I took in morning and inquire the driver about my wallet.
My heart was sinking down as the time passed. Next day, following things happened:
- I got a call from RTA ( within 15 hours of my complaint). I didn’t have the taxi number or bill receipt. On the basis of the information I gave them on my pick/ drop time and place, they tracked the taxi and inquired the driver about my wallet. Sadly, the driver had not found it.
- Still upset about the wallet, I blocked my bank cards. Then, I got a call from the mall security and they asked me to visit the lost and found section in the mall. I went there and got my wallet back - everything as it is. Someone found it and gave it to mall security. I never got to know who it was.
And, this, I think is the most mind- blowing thing about Dubai - Honesty. And I will always be indebted to the kind soul who returned my wallet!!!
