Ashish Nehra received one of the best Farewell ever in Indian Cricket. Hats off to BCCI and especially to Captain Virat Kohli for the way he arranged everything for probably one of the biggest fighters in terms of grit he showed in his prolonged career with Injury with which he struggled right through and quite fascinating to see the way Indian players and spectators rose and applauded the effort of Nehra.
Ashish Nehra made his debut in 1999 against Srilanka and World saw and noticed a left handed bowler who was able to ball away swingers which meant the ball came in to Right hander batsman and it is quite potent delivery to have for left handed bowlers. He played for almost 18 years which just tells how much he loved to be in park performing .. kept coming back after injury and proved himself every time in domestic circuit. He was one of the most potent opening bowler partner for Zaheer Khan and showed his class in 2003 World Cup where in One of the match he took 6 wickets against England and is the best figures by any Indian Bowler in World Cup.
He had some serious bad luck with Injury which kept on haunting him right through his career and many felt his career was over but he kept on taking wickets and proved himself in International Circuit and also in IPL which gave him a chance to return back and be a dominant player in 20–20 circuit which speaks volume about his character and zest to fight and prove himself in whatever opportunity was provided to him.
Many might not know but he also won a match for India with bat and he is not in any social media site as in One of interview when he was asked why is he not in any SM.He Said “I am more of Outdoor guy and don’t feel it’s necessary for me being a sportsman to be there’’.
He was quite famous among team mates and one of the reason for that was his Happy go lucky attitude. As in his farewell match whole of Fezozshah kotla gave a standing ovation to probably not one of the greatest to wear Indian Cap but to a player who played with a lot of heart.
We can learn from Nehraji(As he is called by everyone) that u can bowl at 153 but still have a smile and also he had a big heart as he kept coming back without any complaint or remorse as most of the time fast bowlers do give in if they keep on getting Injured.
In his post match Interview when asked by Sanjay Manjrekar “So Happy now to retired he just said “I am always happy whether playing or retired with a smile’’ which just sums up Nehra as a player and more importantly Human Being he was.
