Is there any train way to go from India to Sri Lanka?

 As of now there is no train service between India and Sri Lanka countries, because these countries don't have land connectivity to reach.

Now either option is by travel by train till nearest railway station:-

1. Chennai Central/ Chennai Egmore
2. Nagapattinam Junction

From Chennai, direct flight available to Sri Lanka (by air option)

2nd option is alight at Nagapattinam Junction Railway Station

Then take a ferry Nagapattinam-Kankensanthurai Ferry

From Kankensanthurai to Colombo Sri Lanka’s Capital City distance is 418 km, by train or bus you can reach there

Ferry fare will be around Rs 4000 per head.

From Delhi/Mumbai Direct flights available if you are not looking for ferry journey

In past There used to be a train from Madras to Dhanushkodi which is connected with a ferry to Talaimannar in Sri Lanka,

due to cyclones in 1964 near Rameswaram Dhanushkodi it vanished away and ferry service discontinued.

From thalaimannar to Colombo distance is 337 km.

Is “Sri Lanka” the “Lanka” of the Ramayana?

 

Samprati, the brother of Jatayu was waiting for Vanara Sena who went in search of Mata Sita. He was waiting for them in Vindhyan range.

From there they came to the northern end of the Indian Ocean.

Vanara Sena was in trouble as they couldn't think of any way to go to Lanka crossing such a big ocean. They didn't have big ships or boats and no time to build the ships.

Then, Jambavana suggested Hanuman had the capacity to cross the ocean and reach Lanka and find Mata Sita. Hanuman leapt from Mahendra mountains and crossing difficulties reached Trikuta Mountain in Lanka.

Lanka existed in the south of Vindhyan Range and in Indian Ocean.

Why is Sri Lanka represented on the Indian map?

 There is actually a maritime law behind showing Sri Lanka in the Indian map. If Sri Lanka is not shown in the Indian map then it will be considered a legal offence. This is the reason why Sri Lanka is definitely shown in every Indian map.

What does the law related to this say

This law was made by the United Nations, which is called Law of the Sea. According to this, if a country's border is bordered by the sea, then the sea area up to about 200 nautical miles i.e. about 370 kilometers will be considered the sea area of that country. Sri Lanka also comes within this maritime border of India. Actually, the distance from Dhanushkodi of India to Sri Lanka is only 18 kilometers, hence due to the Law of the Sea, it has been made mandatory for India to show Sri Lanka in its map.

Why was this law made

In the year 1956, when the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea was organized by the United Nations, many countries participated in this conference. During this period, there was an in-depth discussion on maritime boundaries and related treaties and agreements. However, this law was recognized in its third conference which took place between 1973 and 1982. During this period, many maritime international laws were recognized, one of which was the Law of the Sea. Under this, it was made mandatory to show the limit of 200 nautical miles from the baseline of that country on the map of any country.

Why did Lord Rama choose to build a bridge instead of sailing through the sea by a boat?

 Many people wonder why Lord Rama chose to build the Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge) instead of simply crossing the sea with boats. The decision was not just about practicality but had deeper strategic, symbolic, and divine reasons:

1️⃣ Massive Army Movement – Lord Rama was not traveling alone; he had an army of Vanaras (monkey warriors) with him. Transporting such a vast army, along with their weapons and supplies, by boat would have been impractical and time-consuming. A bridge ensured safe and efficient movement.

2️⃣ Divine Will & Bhakti – The construction of Ram Setu was a testament to the unwavering devotion and dedication of Lord Rama’s followers, especially Nal and Neel, who had the blessing to make stones float. This act also reinforced faith in Lord Rama’s divine power.

3️⃣ Strategic Advantage – A permanent bridge gave Rama’s army an edge over Ravana’s forces. If they had used boats, Ravana’s army could have easily intercepted or destroyed them mid-sea. The bridge ensured a direct and secure passage to Lanka.

4️⃣ Symbol of Unity & Determination – Building the bridge symbolized teamwork, perseverance, and devotion, as the entire Vanara Sena worked together to achieve what seemed impossible. It became a lesson in faith, courage, and unity.

5️⃣ Divine Intervention – According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama first prayed to Samudra Dev (the ocean god) to give way, but when he did not respond, Rama was about to use his divine weapon. Samudra Dev then appeared and advised him to build a bridge with the help of Nal and Neel, as it was destined to become a sacred path for future generations.

The Ram Setu is not just a bridge; it is a symbol of faith, devotion, and divine power that continues to inspire people even today. 🚩
