What are the Most haunted railway stations of India?

MOST HAUNTED RAILWAY STATIONS OF INDIA

The haunted train stations in India are a topic of an interesting conversation nowadays. Considering Indian train stations are nearly 200 years old. Here is a list of railway stations that you should better stay away from, unless you are outrageously adventurous. Because they are haunted!

1. Begunkodor Train Station, West Bengal

Located in a remote village in West Bengal, this station is reportedly haunted by a white-sari draped spectral, the ghost of a lady who was run over by a train there. She has been seen dancing on the platforms and wandering along the tracks, and the sight has allegedly caused the death of a railway employee. However, these reports were rubbished by the government and the station was reopened in 2009 after being deserted for 42 years.

2. Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station, Kolkata

Also known as the Paradise of Suicide, this metro station has witnessed 70 per cent of all the suicides that take place on metro tracks. Eerie figures appear and vanish in a fraction of a second. Shadows move on the platform on late evenings. Such occurrences are commonly experienced by commuters who travel by the last metro at around 10.30 pm.

3. Barog Station, Shimla

The Barog tunnel/tunnel no 33/tunnel 103 is the longest tunnel on the Kalka Shimla Railway route. It takes about 2.5 minutes to cross this tunnel. Colonel Barog, a British railway engineer who was originally assigned to construct the tunnel, felt humiliated and depressed when a miscalculation about the engineering led to him being fined by the government and reprimanded in front of his workers. He ended up shooting himself while taking a walk. Though he was buried outside the then incomplete tunnel, one wonders if his spirit ever left the tunnel. It is believed that he still lingers in and around the eerie and damp tunnel making his presence felt.

4. Naini Railway Station, Uttar Pradesh

Though people haven't particularly ‘seen’ figures or shadows, a ghostly presence has been felt here; possibly of the unfortunate souls of the freedom fighters who perished in Naini Jail, not too far from the station.

5. Dwarka Sector 9 Metro Station, Delhi

There are rumors that an angry woman runs behind cars at night and sometimes even knock at their door! It is believed that the ghost of the woman killed a school-going kid . The female figure is seen often by late night travellers.

6. Patalpani Station, Madhya Pradesh

This railway station is considered as haunted. Here the British had thrown the freedom fighters Tantya Bhil. Even today, if a train passes through here, his mausoleum is given salute and only after that the train goes forward.

7. Sohagpur Station, Madhya Pradesh

People have seen strange happenings at Sohagpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh. When the station remains in the night, people have heard the voice of shouting a woman. This has happened many times.

8. Ludhiana Station, Ludhiana

There is a story attached to this railway station. In 2004 an employee was killed in the reservation office whose soul is still wandering.

9. Chittoor Station, Andhra Pradesh

Local residents near to this place believed this station to be haunted because of its stories. One CRPF official named Hari Singh, got down at Chittoor railway station and was attacked by fellow RPF personnel and TTEs. Since then, it is believed that the soul of this officer is searching for justice.

10. MG Road Metro Station, Delhi

This metro station in Gurugram where people have experienced paranormal activities has a story behind it. People believe that a white-sari clad lady who died here years ago in an accident is the reason of haunted experience.

Well, if you believe in these haunted places or not, I will suggest you to not visit such places purely for adventure because picture can be bigger in real!

Before 1947, which were two big railway stations in India?

The two big railway stations in India before 1947 were the most significant, oldest and the largest railway stations in India which were constructed before independence around 170 years ago.

Howrah Junction in Kolkata and Victoria Terminus in Mumbai were the two biggest railway stations in India before 1947.

Victoria Terminus in Mumbai: The original station Bori Bunder was established in 1853 where the first passenger train in India ran to Thane. The current building was completed in 1888 and was renamed as Victoria Terminus.

During British rule Victoria Terminus had served as the headquarters of the Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR) which was the main gateway for the international trade in Western India. It was one of the busiest railway stations of that time.

Victoria Terminus was built in combination of Victorian Gothic Revival Architecture and Traditional Indian Architecture. British architect S. W. Stevens designed it and now it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. The terminal was built over 10 years which began in 1878 and got completed in 1888. The remarkable stone dome, turrets, pointed arches and eccentric ground plan are similar to Indian traditional palace architecture. Today it's known as Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

Howrah Junction in Kolkata was opened on 15th August, 1854 and this is referred as one of the oldest railway stations in India.

This was one of the largest and busiest railway stations that linked Kolkata to other major parts of India. By 1900 with the extension of the Bengal Nagpur railway it had become a joint station and was connecting to Bombay and Madras. It is a beautiful large building having red brick structure.
