 HARE KRISHNA

In this answer I will also mention praises of Almighty Bhagvan Shri Ramji by many gods along with his eulogies.

(1.) Words of Lord Brahma,Supreme Lord Mahadeva, Lord Yama,Lord Kubera, Indradev, Varunadev along with all 33 gods for Lord Rama: ( they together spoken these words)

Thereupon, Kubera the King of Yakshas, Yama the lord of death together with the deceased ancestors, Indra the lord of celestials Varuna the lord of waters, the illustrious Shiva the great deity who bears the device of a bull as his banner and having three eyes, Brahma the creator of all the worlds and the best among the knowers of sacred knowledge all these together reaching the City of Lanka in aerial cars, shining like the sun approached Rama.

‘You are the lord of all the worlds. You are supreme and best among those who know."How do you, the maker of the entire cosmos, the foremost among those endowed with knowledge and an all-capable person, do not recognize yourself ? How do you not recognize yourself to be the foremost of the troop of gods?" "Among the Vasus (a class of gods, eight in number), you are the Vasu, named R^itadhama (one whose abode is Truth or the Divine Law) who was formerly the self-constituted ruler, the first creator of all the three worlds and the lord of creatures." "You are the eighth Rudra among (eleven) Rudras and the fifth (Viryavan by name) among the Sadhyas (a particular class of celestials belonging to Gana Devata). The twin Aswinis are your ears. The sun and the moon constitute your eyes." "O the destroyer of the adversaries. You are seen (to exist) at the beginning and at the end of creation.

(2.) Words of Almighty Parshuramji for Lord Rama during Swayamavar of Supreme Mother Janki.

"I have realized your touch of nature as that of the Immutable Supreme Being. You are the Lord of Gods, the Exterminator of the demon Madhu, namely Vishnu, the one without decay., by the touch of your handling that bow... oh, enemy-inflamer, blessedness alone betides you."All of these gods who have come collectively are beholding you and your next move, for you are an unequalled one in you achievements and to whom there is no counter-dueller in conflicts.Your deeds are unmatched and you cannot be countered in a fight. O Kakutstha! I should not be ashamed at this. You are the protector of the three worlds. "Oh, Kakutstha Rama, you are the lord of the triad of worlds, such as you are, you faced me down, and it is malapropos to say that this is a disgrace to me."It will be apt of you to unloose that unsurpassed arrow, oh, Rama, as you have ethical commitment to wipe out demons as I wiped out menacing kings, and should you unloosen that arrow now I wish to depart to the ethereal mountain Mt. Mahendra, a point of no return for me." So said Parashu Rama to Dasharatha Rama.

(3.) Words of Lord Brahma for Lord Rama:

"You are the Lord Narayana himself the glorious god, who wields the discus. You are the Divine Boar with a single tusk, the conqueror of your past and future enemies." "You are Brahma, the imperishable, the Truth abiding in the middle as well as at the end of the universe. You are the supreme righteousness of people, whose powers go everywhere. You are the four-armed." You are without decay. "You are the wielder of a bow called Sarnga, the lord of all the senses, the supreme soul of the universe, the best of men, the invincible, the wielder of a sword named Nandaka, the all-pervader, the bestower of happiness to the earth and endowed with great might." You are Hrishikesha. You are Purusha. You are the four-armed one. You are Purushottama. You cannot be vanquished."You are the leader of the army and the village headman. You are the intellect. You are intelligence. You are the spirit. You are forgiveness. You are selfcontrol. There is nothing without you. You are Padmanabha.

You are the endurance and the subduer of the senses. You are the origin and the dissolution of all, Upendra the Divine Dwarf and (the younger brother of Indra) as also the destroyer Madhu, the demon." "You perform action for Indra the lord of celestials, the Supreme Ruler, the one having a lotus in one's navel and who puts and end to all in battles. The divine sages pronounce you to be fit to afford protection to all and the refuge for all." "In the form of the Vedas, you are the great Bull with hundred heads (rules) and thousand horns (precepts). You are the first creator of all, the three worlds, and the self constituted Lord of all. You are the refuge and the forbear of Siddhas (a class of demi-gods endowed with mystic powers by virtue of their very birth) and Sadhyas (a class of celestial beings.)"

"You are the sacrificial performance. You are the sacred syllable 'Vashat' (on hearing which the Adhvaryu priest casts the oblation to a deity into the sacrificial fire). You are the mystic syllable 'OM'. You are higher than the highest. People neither know your end nor your origin nor who you are in reality." "You appear in all created beings in the cattle and in brahmanas. You exist in all quarters, in the sky, in mountains and in rivers." "With thousand feet, with hundred heads and with thousand eyes along with Lakshmi the goddess of wealth, you bear the earth with all its created beings along with its mountains." "O Rama! You appear as Sesha, a large serpent in water, at the earth's bottom, sustaining the three worlds with gods, Gandharvas, the celestial musicians and the demons."

"O Rama! I (brahma) am your heart. Saraswathi, the goddess (of learning) is your tongue. O lord! The gods created by Brahma are the hair on all your limbs." "Night has been recognized as the closing of your eye-lids and the day, as the opening of eye-lids. The correct usages of your words are the Vedas. Bereft of you, this visible universe does not exist." "The entire cosmos is your body. The earth constitutes your firmness. Fire is your anger. The moon constitutes your placidity. You are Lord Vishnu (who bears the mark Srivatsa - a curl of white hair on his breast)." "In the past, the three worlds were traversed by you in your three strides, after binding the exceptionally formidable Bali (the ruler of the three worlds) and Indra was made the king (by you)."

"Seetha is no other than Goddess Lakshmi (the divine consort of Lord Vishnu), while you are Lord Vishnu. You are having a shining dark-blue hue. You are the Lord of created beings. For the destruction of Ravana, you entered a human body here, on this earth." "O Rama, the foremost among the supporters of righteousness! The aforesaid purpose of ours has been fulfilled. Ravana has been killed. Return to your divine abode, with a rejoice." O Lord! Unerring is your valour. Your exploits are never in vain.Your strength and valour are invincible. Your power never fails. O Rama! Your blessed sight is powerful. The songs in praise of you never go in vain."

"Those humans who are full of devotion to you will never be unsuccessful on this earth. Those who are devoted to you, the primeval and the eternal lord, belonging to ancient times and the Supreme Person, will forever attain their desired objects here as well as hereafter." "Humiliation will never be the plight of those humans who will recite this hymn in a divine ancient history, sung by Brahma, the foremost seer."

(4.) Words of Almighty, All powerful Hanumanji for Lord Rama:

"Who is capable even among celestials and demons, to withstand the arrows discharged by Lakshmana, in the wake of the fury of Rama? "O king! No one is known in the three worlds, who have gained happiness, by doing harm to Rama." "Even Indra the Lord of celestials, in person, cannot attain happiness if he does any harm to Rama. How much move to another person like you?" The renowned Rama is capable of totally destroying all the worlds together with its five elements, along with its animate and inanimate things and also to create yet again all the worlds in like manner as before."

"There is no one who can fight against the renowned Rama, who is equal in prowess to Vishnu the lord of the preservation. And among celestials, demons or the foremost of men, or among hordes of Yakshas the semi-divine beings or ogres or among all Vidyadharas, a king of super-natural beings or among Gandharvas the celestials musicians or among Uragas the semi-divine serpents or among Siddhas the holy personages having super-natural powers or among excellent Kinnaras the mythical beings with human figure and head of a horse or among all types of birds or among all living beings at all places and at all times.

"After doing a great harm in this manner to Rama the lord of all the three worlds as well as the lion among kings, your survival will be difficult." "O king of demons! Either celestials or demons or Gandharvas the celestial musicians or Vidyadharas a king of super-natural beings or Nagas the semi-divine serpents or Yakshas the semi divine beings-all of them are not able to stand before Rama, the lord of the three worlds."

"Either Brahma the self-existing god with four faces or Rudra with three eyes and the destroyer of Tripura (the city built of gold, silver and iron in the sky, air and earth, by Maya for the demons and burnt by Shiva), or Mahendra the god of atmosphere and sky as also the lord of celestials would not be able to protect the one to be killed by Rama in battle.”

(5.) Words of Trikaldarshi, all knowing, all powerful Lord Anant Sheshnaag aka Lakshmanji for Lord Rama:

Oh, Vaidehi, your husband is an impossible one for vincibility by serpents, asura-s, gandharva-s, gods, fiends, demons, no doubt about it. Oh, auspicious one, unmarked is some combatant who can counterattack Rama from among gods, humans, gandharva-s, birds, ogres, kinnaraa-s, beasts, or oh, lady, even from horrendous demons, as Rama vies with Indra in any given war. It is inapt of you to talk that way as Rama is inextirpable in a given war, and as for me, I do not venture to abandon you in this forest in the absence of Raghava.Let the most forceful Crowns with all their military forces, or, all of the gods together with their heads, why they, let all the three worlds put together come mutinously, whether jointly or severally, Rama's prowess is irrestrainable.

Who was Valmiki, and why is he famous?

Valmiki was a Rishi and the author of Ramayana. He was inspired to write the Ramayana by Narada and granted vision by Brahma. Lord Shiva previously gave him a boon that he will be famous because of his poem.

I become cleansed of all my sins. That dispeller of all sorrows, viz., the destroyer of the triple city of the Asuras, said unto me,—Your fame shall be great in the world.

If Shiv Tandava was written by Ravana, does it mean it was ultimately written by Valmiki?

So as per the legend, Ravana supposedly composed the Stotram depicting Shiva’s dance which is called as Tandava Stotram however, there is no real proof to say that he as such composed the Stotram. Yet, I give it the benefit of doubt as it is mentioned that he sung a praise of Lord Shiva which may or may not have been the Tandava Stotram.

Its mentioned that he sung various praises of Lord Mahadeva from various hymns and sacred texts which impressed the mighty god. Even if he was singing the Tandava Stotram, I do not think he composed the Shiv Tandav Stotram. The Stotram would have been existing before Ravana himself. He just recited the same Stotram to please Lord Shankara so that he can be forgiven for his arrogance.

Valmiki Ramayana Uttara Kanda - Mahadeva humbles Ravan

Then, O Rama, Mahadeva, the foremost of the Gods, as if in sport, pressed the mountain with his great toe and, at the same time, he crushed Ravana’s arms, that resembled pillars of granite, to the great consternation of all the counsellors of that Rakshasa. And he, in pain and fury, suddenly let forth a terrible cry, causing the Three Worlds to tremble, so that his ministers thought it to be the crash of thunder at the dissolution of the worlds!
Thereupon the Gods, with Indra at their head, stumbled on their way; the oceans became agitated, the mountains shook, and the Yakshas,
Vidyadharas and Siddhas cried out:—
‘What is this? Do you pacify Mahadeva, the Blue-throated One, the Lord of Uma; apart from Him, there is no refuge in the world, O Dashanana! By hymns and prostration seek refuge with Him, propitiated and gratified, Shankara will look on you with favour.’
“Hearing the words of his ministers, Dashanana, bowing before Him, worshipped the God Whose standard bears the bull, by the recitation of hymns and innumerable sacred texts. Thus did that titan lament for a thousand years.
“
Thereafter the Lord Mahadeva, propitiated, released the arms of Dashanana from under the mountain and addressed him saying:—
‘“I am gratified with your courage and endurance, O Dashanana!
When you wast imprisoned under the rock, you didst emit a terrible cry, striking terror in the Three Worlds. For this reason, O King, from now on your name shall be Ravana, and Celestials, Men, Yakshas and other Beings in the universe shall call you “Ravana”—“He who causes the worlds to cry out”. O Paulastya [i.e., Mahasena—The Lord of War, Karttikeya], follow the path that pleases you without fear, you have my sanction to depart.’

The origin of the Tandava dance is said to be when Ma Kali slew the demon Daruka. Its said that her rage could destroy the worlds, thats when Lord Shiva performed the dance of Tandava to please Bhavani devi.

Linga Purana 1.106

25-28. In order to propitiate her, the delighted tridentbearing lord of Devas performed the tāṇḍava dance at dusk, along with the ghosts and leaders of goblins. After quaffing the nectar-like dance of Śiva upto the throat [i.e. after enjoying the dance of Śiva very much] Parameśvarī danced in the midst of ghosts, happily along with Yoginīs. Devas all round, including Brahmā, Indra and Viṣṇu, bowed to and eulogised Kālī and then prayed to the goddess Pārvatī. Thus, the Tāṇḍava of the trident-bearing lord has been briefly mentioned to you. Others[5] are of the opinion that the Tāṇḍava of the lord is due to the Bliss of yoga.

The reason I am saying this is, after Ma Gauri had slain the demon Mahishasura, she worshipped Lord Shankara as Arunachaleshwara and mentioned his dance as the Tandava. This event happened before Ravana was even born which means the Stotram existed before Ravana’s birth and he merely would have recited it to impress Lord Shiva.

Skanda Purana 1.4.20.34

jaya saṃdhyāsamopetasaṃbhṛtānaṃdatāṃḍava |
jaya gīrvāṇagaṃdharvasiddhavidyādharārcita || 34 ||

34. Be victorious, O Lord, indulging in blissful Tāṇḍava dance at the advent of the time of dusk. Be victorious, O Lord, worshipped by Devas, Gandharvas, Siddhas and Vidyādharas.

Another reference to the Tandava comes from Banasura who was another devotee of Lord Shiva. He had a thousand arms and was an expert Veena player. To please Lord Shiva he played the Tandava while Lord Shiva danced. This actually might refer to the Tandava we know today.

Shrimad Bhagavat Purana 10.62.2

bāṇaḥ putra-śata-jyeṣṭho
baler āsīn mahātmanaḥ
yena vāmana-rūpāya
haraye ’dāyi medinī
tasyaurasaḥ suto bānaḥ
śiva-bhakti-rataḥ sadā
mānyo vadānyo dhīmāṁś ca
satya-sandho dṛḍha-vrataḥ
śoṇitākhye pure ramye
sa rājyam akarot purā
tasya śambhoḥ prasādena
kiṅkarā iva te ’marāḥ
sahasra-bāhur vādyena
tāṇdave ’toṣayan mṛḍam

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Bāṇa was the oldest of the hundred sons fathered by the great saint Bali Mahārāja, who gave the whole earth in charity to Lord Hari when He appeared as Vāmanadeva. Bāṇāsura, born from Bali’s semen, became a great devotee of Lord Śiva. His behavior was always respectable, and he was generous, intelligent, truthful and firm in his vows. The beautiful city of Śoṇitapura was under his dominion. Because Lord Śiva had favored him, the very demigods waited on Bāṇāsura like menial servants. Once, when Śiva was dancing his tāṇḍava-nṛtya, Bāṇa especially satisfied the lord by playing a musical accompaniment with his one thousand arms.

There is another reference from the Linga Purana where all Apsara’s perform the Tandava dance to impress Lord Shiva.

Linga Purana 1.82

71-73a. May the celestial damsels and the goddesses, engaged in the worship of Śiva dispel my impurities—viz., Urvaśī, Menakā, Rambhā, Rati, Tilottamā, Sumukhī, Durmukhī, Kāmukī, Kāmavardhanī and other divine Apsarases in all the worlds and the goddesses who are highly purified by doing the Tāṇḍava dance for Śiva.
