What are some impressive facts that appear to be "fakes" but are actually true?

  1. The crime rate is so low in the Netherlands that they have had to close 23 prisons since 2004 because there were not enough criminals to fill them
  2. Back in the 90s when Denzel Washington paid the costs of a young aspiring actor who couldn't afford to go to the Oxford Summer Theater. This young actor was Chadwick Boseman (RIP). Chadwick publicly thanked Denzel at the 2019 awards.
  3. In 1963, a Turkish man renovated his house. After breaking a wall he found a tunnel. He followed the tunnel and discovered an ancient underground city called Derinkuyu which once had 20,000 inhabitants.
  4. In 2009, an autistic artist named Stephen Wiltshire was able to draw New York from memory with a pencil after taking the helicopter for just 20 minutes.
  5. Princess Diana was known for ignoring royal protocols. She often took the metro. In the theme parks she refused to be favored and made William and Harry queue like everyone else.
  6. Blue Nelson Lake in New Zealand has the clearest water known to man, with visibility at over 260 feet.
  7. The record for the biggest car theft of all time stands at 1,000 Volvo cars. The cars were ordered and delivered although the invoice was ignored, it has still not been paid today. The cars were ordered and delivered to North Korea.
  8. In 1963 the Bronx Zoo highlighted a catchy title "the most dangerous animal in the world", it was a mirror.
  9. 2 attackers from New York once tried to attack former world heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey (who was 60/70 years old at the time of the incident). The two attackers ended up, as you imagine, unconscious. The date and circumstances of the event are uncertain although Dempsey referred to it in his book.
  10. My favorite: In 1996, an avid bird watcher from Devon, England spent an entire year hooting owls and recording their responses, unaware that his neighbor claimed to be an owl by responding by hooting too.
