Duryodhana in no way inspired any of those warriors, who fought for him in the war of Kurukshetra. The key warriors who fought under his banner can be put into 3 buckets.
Bucket No. 1 : Tied to the throne of Hastinapur
- Bhishma
Bhishma had taken an oath (Bhishma Pratigya) of lifelong celibacy and pledged his service to the king of Hastinapur (throne of his father).
- Bhishma had also declared that, those who raise their weapons against Hastinapur should deal with him first.
Bhishma was undoubtedly the most powerful and disciplined warrior among all the warriors of Kurukshetra. However he overlooked the Dharma in the context of his oath, and he is one of the prime reasons why the war happened. Although his weapons were fighting for the sake of Duryodhana, his soul was with the Pandavas. He held the fort for the Kauravas for 10 days in the war, and finally he himself disclosed the secret of subduing him to the Pandavas.
Arjuna used Shikhandi as a proxy and overpowered him. - Drona
Drona was indebted to the throne of Hastinapur, as it was Hastinapur which gave him employment and helped him come out of his poverty. At one point of time in his life, Drona was so poor that, he could not even afford a bowl of milk for his infant son (Ashwattama). His childhood friend and the king of Panachala, Drupada ill-treated him, when he went to seek his help.
- In his days of struggle for livelihood, it was Hastinapur that held his hand
Bhishma appointed him as the teacher for the Kaurava and Pandava princes. He had high regards for Bhishma and the throne of Hastinapur. After their training under Drona, Pandavas defeated Drupada and handed over half of his kingdom of Panchala to Drona as "Guru Dakshina". Ashwattama was coronated as the king of this part.
Like Bhishma, Drona too fought under Hastinapur's flag only because of his loyalty towards it. His heart was always with the Pandavas, especially Arjuna, whom he loved more than his own son Ashwattama. - Ashwattama
The Guruputra of the Kauravas and Pandavas had similar reasons as his father Drona.
- Ashwattama was also an old time friend of Duryodhana and detested Arjuna
Ashwattama was jealous that his father gives Arjuna, more attention than him.
Although it were the Pandavas who made him a king, his ego towards Arjuna and the favour of Hastinapur towards his father in their tough days, took the upper hand and made him fight for Duryodhana. - Kripacharya
Kripacharya was the kulaguru (family priest) of Hastinapur.
- Kripacharya was also the teacher of Kaurava and Pandava princes before Drona.
He had no other option, but to fight for Hastinapur, owing to his loyalty towards his throne of Hastinapur. - Sudakshina
Sudakshina, king of Kamboja was a sub-ordinate king of Hastinapur. He was captured by Karna, and he and his army had accepted Hastinapur's supremacy. So he was forced to fight for Duryodhana.
Bucket No. 2 : Blood relatives of Duryodhana - cum - Traditional foes of Pandavas
- Jayadrata
Jayadrata, king of Sindhu, was Duryodhana's brother-in-law. Plus he was a bitter enemy of Pandavas. And hence he is a natural ally to Kauravas.
- Jayadrata had a bitter encounter with Pandavas while he had tried abducting Draupadi

Shakuni, was the cunning master-minded maternal uncle of Duryodhana. He was the one who always fostered hatredness in the minds of Kauravas against Pandavas.

He and his Gandhar army were undoubtedly the most natural allies of Duryodhana. - Duryodhana's 99 brothers
Needless to say, all sons of Dhritarastra had extraordinary enemity with the Pandavas, Bhima especially, right from their childhood days.
All of them were ruthlessly slaughtered in the hands of Bhima in the war.
Bucket No. 3 : Forced/Tricked to fight for Duryodhana
- Karna
Duryodhana had long time back realized that he can use Karna as his triumph card. Since his childhood days, Duryodhana knew very well that Pandavas cannot be decimated unless Bhima and Arjuna are killed.
To counter Bhima, who was a very good wrestler and an excellent warrior of mace fight, he himself took the lessons of mace fight from Drona and Balaram, who were also Bhima's gurus. However Duryodhana had no one who could counter Arjuna, who was a well versed archer, of an excellent grade parallel to that of Bhishma and Drona.
- Karna
On the other side, Karna saw Arjuna as his fierce competitor and always dreamt of becoming superior to Arjuna in archery.
So Duryodhana saw a very potential archer in Karna and sought his friendship so that he can cash in Karna's attitude towards Arjuna into his victory over Pandavas. Besides this, he very well knew that neither Bhishma nor Drona would ever kill the Pandavas. So it was only Karna who could do that.
So Duryodhana made Karna the king of Anga, when he was denied competition with Arjuna citing his lower caste. By this gesture, Duryodhana set his position very high in the eyes of Karna. Hence Karna was indirectly tricked to fight for Duryodhana. - Shalya
Shalya was the maternal uncle of Nakula and Sahadeva. He was marching forth with his army to join his nephews for the war. Duryodhana, knowing very well that Shalya was a great warrior and possessed 2 Akshauhini armies, hatched a plan to trick him.
- Shalya
On the way, Duryodhana arranged for a feast for Shalya and his army. Shalya mistook this treatment to be from Yudhishtira and was impressed by the hospitality of his "host", and pledged to be at his host's service. After realizing the truth, he apologized to Yudhishtira.
But as per his pledge, he had to fight under Duryodhana's banner.
3. Kritavarma
Kritavarma was the commander of Krishna's Yadava army (Narayani Sena).

Before the start of the battle, both Arjuna and Duryodhana had gone to seek Krishna's help in the war. Krishna laid a condition to them that, either they can choose him or his Narayani Sena, however he would not wield any weapon during the war.
Arjuna given the first chance, chose an unarmed Krishna while, Duryodhana happily chose his Narayani Sena. So naturally, the whole of Narayani Sena under Kritavarma was forced to fight for Duryodhana.
Besides, these key warriors, there existed another category of kings, who blindly decided to fight for side where the likes of Bhishma and Drona were present as they believed that, the side led by them was invincible!!
So overall, all of those who fought For Duryodhana in the war were not necessarily inspired by him. They all had their own reasons and obligations.
