What are the most mindblowing geography facts?

When you look at the map, it seems like you could draw a straight line almost anywhere. But finding the longest single straight line path over land is very difficult. It is found on the coast of Liberia, in West Africa, and it stretches for over 8400 miles ( around 13600 kilometers), crossing through 15 countries and ending in China.

Also, France has the most time zones in the world. It has 12 time zones (13 if we include Antarctica). France has a lot of overseas territories and departments all across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

When you add up all those remote islands and regions, France has a even wider reach then Russia.

One more thing, most people associate the “Cape of Good Hope” with the southern tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. But that is a misconception. The southernmost point is actually Cape Agulhas, which is about 90 miles southeast of the Cape of the Good Hope.

This is the true geographic dividing line between two oceans. It’s where the warm Agulhas current from the Indian Ocean meets the cold Benguela current from the Atlantic. It is very dangerous place for sailors, for example.
