What are some lesser known but interesting facts about cricket in India?

 

Kids from the 90’s must be familiar with this person. He's Ajit Agarkar , Former Indian cricketer.

Here are some of his bowling stats -

  • He represented India in 191 ODIs and
    Took 288 wickets with an average of 28.85.
  • Third highest wicket taker for India in ODIs.
  • He broke the record of Denis Lili who took fastest 50 wickets. He kept that record until Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka broke it in 2009.
    The stats mentioned above are enough to establish him as a magnificent bowler. But very few may know that he was good with the bat too.

Now here are some facts which you may find quite surprising Vis-a-Vis his bating skills -

  • He's the fastest Indian to score 50 in the ODIs and took just 21 balls to achieve it.
  • He also hit a century at the"Mecca of Cricket" The Lord's against England which is a big feat and a dream to many batsmen. Unfortunately even Sachin Tendulkar couldn't hit a century at Lord's.
  • He was part of the Indian team which won the inaugural T20 world cup in 2007. He will forever be remembered as one of the wasted talents of Indian cricket.
