What are some awesome facts about Atal Bihari Vajpayee?

 

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born in Gwalior in the year 1924. Before joining the Active politics he was Private Assistant to DrShyama Prasad Mukherjee. He wanted to be a journalist but ended up being a politician! Jawaharlal Nehru once said about Atalji that ‘ this boy will become PM one day'

  1. 1939- Joined RSS at a very early Age of 15!
  2. 1942- He was arrested during the Quit India movement for 22 days!
  3. 1951- He joined BHARTIYA JAN SANGH (BJS)
  4. 1953- Lost the first election! It was a bypoll he stood on the third position and the election was won by NEHRUs sister!
  5. 1957- Won first LOK Sabha election from Balrampur constituency
  6. 1962- He shifted himself from Lok Sabha to Rajya Sabha!
  7. 1968- After the death of Sh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay he was appointed as the President of BHARTIYA Jan Sangh
  8. 1973- He reached Parliament in a bullock cart to protest against the increase in price of gas and petrol.
  9. 1975- With lalkrishna Advani, George Fernandes even he was jailed during emergency.
  10. 1977- He became the FOREIGN MINISTER in the Coalition government of Janta Party under the leadership of Morarji Desai
  11. 1977- Taking the UN General Assembly by storm, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had addressed the Assembly in Hindi in 1977 for the first time in the history of India at a global forum.
  12. 1980- There is a split in BJS and that's how BHARTIYA JANTA PARTY (BJP) was formed! He was the first President of BJP
  13. 1996- He becomes the PRIME MINISTER of the country but government collapsed even after having a majority of 161 seats highest in the house!
  14. 1998- He became PM fir the second time, Many important decisions related to Peace in the valley are taken! Also Pokran Nuclear Tests are conducted successfully. This test were criticized by Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and the whole Left lobby. This NDA government could only last 13 months and the government lost majority by just one vote! All because AIADMK broke coalition.
  15. 1999- Re-elections are held, Atalji is sworn in as the PM for the Third time!! During his tenure he started bus service from Delhi to Lahore. Won the Kargil War.
  16. 2000- Launched Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojnaa
  17. 2001- Launches the Sarva Shiksha abhiyan which brought the major reform in the education system. Had a knee replacement surgery
  18. 2002- Completed Delhi metro project on time.
  19. 2004- BJP lost the general elections, ABV Completes his full term of 5 year as a PM and becomes the first Non congressi PM To do so.
  20. 2005- Retires from politics due to health issues.
  21. 2009- suffers a stoke, due to which he was unable to speak much.
  22. 2014- His 90th is been celebrated as a good Governance day by the newly formed Modi Government.
  23. 2015- He is been awarded the Highest Honour of the country Bharat Ratna.
  24. 2018- He was hospitalized for more than 9 weeks due to urinal infection and organ failures!

On 16th August 18 at 05.05Pm he left us at the age of 93!
