How many luxury trains are there in India?

 There are 7 luxury trains in Indian Railways and 2 Semi-Luxury Train

1.Maharaja Express

India's most expensive Luxury train, First service on 2010 and operated by Indian Railways and IRCTC

This train was named to evoke the opulent, lavish lifestyle of India's former Maharajas (great kings) and to highlight its role in offering a royal travel experience

Main route is Mumbai Jaipur Jodhpur Agra Varanasi Delhi

It offers 7-day journeys across India, with the Presidential Suite costing over ₹20 lakh approx, per person

2. Palace on Wheels

First service on 1982 and refurbished on 2009. This train is Operatored by RTDC and Indian Railways

Main operational route Delhi Jaipur Jodhpur Udaipur and Agra

The train’s coaches are designed based on the personal railway carriages once used by kings and rulers of princely states in Rajasthan,

It recreates the experience of traveling like royalty, a “palace” that moves on wheels. and promote tourism in Rajasthan, Its more like Royalty Experience which is amazing,

3. Royal Rajasthan on Wheels

First service on 2009 and it is operated by Indian Railways and RTDC. When compared to Palace on Wheels, RROW is a newer, more modern, and often considered more luxurious version compared to the iconic, heritage-focused POW , Palace on Wheel

Only difference is Luxury Level, RROW boasts 3 cabins per coach (offering more space), compared to the usual 4 cabins in traditional trains.

And (RROW) train operates different route via Jaipur Jodhpur Khajuraho Agra Varanasi Delhi

4. The Deccan Odyssey

First service on 2004 and it is operated by Indian Railways and MTDC,

main operational route Mumbai Nashik Vadodara Jaipur Agra Delhi

It highlights a luxurious, long-journey "odyssey" (voyage) through the historic Deccan Plateau region of India, primarily showcasing the heritage, beaches, and wildlife of Maharashtra

5. The Golden Chariot

The Golden Chariot is a luxury tourist train that connects the important tourist spots in the Indian states of Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, destination like Alleppey, Kochi

& Tamil Nadu as well as Puducherry, The train is operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railway

First service on 2008.

This train got its name after the iconic Stone Chariot in the Vitthala Temple at Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

6. Bharat Gaurav Express

Bharat Gaurav Train is a theme-based tourist trains operated by Indian Railways and IRCTC

Bharat Gaurav" translates to “Pride of India”, aiming to highlight the nation's cultural and historical significance through curated journeys.

First service on 2021

It Operates on pilgrim site with moderate features,

These trains are theme based tourist trains Examples include the Ramayana Yatra (covering Ayodhya), Jyotirlinga Yatra with Statue of Unity, and North East discovery tours.

7. Buddhist Circuit Tourist Train

The IRCTC Buddhist Circuit Tourist Train, often called the Mahaparinirvan Express is a specialized 8-day luxury train tour in India and Nepal

It covers the key Buddhist pilgrimage sites, including Bodhgaya (enlightenment), Sarnath (first sermon), Lumbini (birthplace), and Kushinagar (parinirvana), combining spiritual exploration with comfortable, all-inclusive travel.

8. Ahmedabad-Ekta Nagar (Kevadiya) Steam Heritage special train

Its a luxurious tourist train features electric pantograph with steam engine body designed for trips to the Statue of Unity with AC Vistadome coaches and a restaurant car,

Features of this train:-Four AC Vistadome coaches (three Executive Chair Cars, one Restaurant Car), panoramic windows, teak wood dining, and automatic doors.

9. Fairy Queen Express

The Fairy Queen Express is the world's oldest working steam locomotive built in 1855, and operates as a luxury heritage tourist train in India

It's a original version Steam engine when compared to Ahmedabad Electric steam engine

First service 1997 operated by Indian Railways

Operational Route:- Delhi to Alwar in Rajasthan, via the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
