What are some of the best Bollywood horror movies?

This list comprises of Horror movies which are actually Horror movies rather than being B-grade Sex Movie.

So, enjoy this:

  • Tumbbad (2018)- Most underrated movie of recent times. Directed by Anand Gandhi, the movie received widespread critical acclaim, form both Domestic as well as international audiences. The movie is set in early 20th century and derives its plot from mythology. Slow burn, but yet a very strong climax.
  • Ragini MMS (2011)- Unlike its sequel, this doesn’t feature Sunny Leone so is less known. It’s Indian adaptation of Hollywood blockbuster Paranormal Activity. The movie is about a couple (Rajkumar Rao and Kainaz Motiwala) who encountered paranormal activities while living in spooky house. It’s in found footage type. Less known amongst movie goers, this one is definitely as spooky as hell.
  • Madhumati (1958)- Father of all Indian horror movies, this black n white classic is inspiration to many subsequent movies. In one of the rare occasion, this Bollywood movie inspired many Hollywood flicks like The Reincarnation of Peter proud as well as blockbuster Om Shanti Om. It was one of the first movie to have reincarnation as its plot. Starring Dilip Kumar and Vjjyayanthimala, this movie is a sure watch.
  • Makdee (2002)- Let’s frankly admit that this movie spooked our childhood. Makdee, the witch was very terrifying. I personally think that kids should be shown this movie. Not to scare them but make them believe that there is no such thing as Ghosts and Witches.
  • 13B: Fear Has a New Address (2009)- Another lesser known Bollywood horror movie. Featuring R. Madhavan, Neetu Chandra in leading roles, this movie is about a family who began experiencing paranormal activities in the new house they moved in. It will surely give you enough chills with good story and engaging climax.
  • Darna Mana Hai (2003)- Directed by RGV, this is actually anthology movie comprising of 6 different segments. A cult classic, this movie is about a group of friends who are stuck when their car broke down and they all resorted in telling horror stories. End of each story results in murder of one of the friend.
  • Phobia (2016)- While it is officially classified as Psychological Thriller, I would prefer to include this in Horror category. Featuring Radhika Apte, this movie is about a girl who suffers from Agoraphobia.
