Reena Roy was born in Mumbai to a Muslim father and a Hindu mother. Originally her name was Saira Ali but she changed her name to Reena Roy for her debut film Zaroorat (1972).
In 1983, she married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan and lived in Pakistan for some time.
She received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Apnapan (1977).
