What were the reasons behind Saif Ali Khan rejecting a role in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and does he regret it?

Infact Saif Ali Khan was not the first choice of Aditya Chopra, the director of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge ( DDLJ)

Aditya Chopra, after assisting his father Yash Chopra in a number of films like Chandani in 1989, Lamhe in 1991 and Darr in 1993 wrote the scripts of several films including the script of DDLJ and he took 3 years to write the script of DDLJ.

Aditya Chopra initially wanted the film to be about a relationship of an Indian girl and an American guy, so he wanted to cast Hollywood actor Tom Cruise for the leading role of Raj. But his father Yash Chopra was not interested to cast a foreign star and so they decided the character Raj would be an NRI.

Later Aditya Chopra offered the role of Raj to Saif Ali Khan opposite Kajol but due to the unknown reasons and his commitments with the other films he declined the offer. It has become a great mistake of Saif, DDLJ became a big block-buster which was released in 1995.

Even Aditya Chopra approached Aamir Khan for DDLJ but he too declined the offer because he was not interested to perform romantic roles at that time.

Aditya Chopra wrote the script of DDLJ with a unique storyline, at that time most of the films were based on two lovers who run away from their houses when their parents object for their marriage. But in DDLJ, Aditya changed the theme and in his film the leading character Raj decides to get the permission of heroin's father at any cost without taking her away with him.

Earlier Aditya Chopra asked his father Yash Chopra to direct the film but his father asked Aaditya Chopra to direct the film by himself. Even Aditya's mother Pamela Chopra praised the script of the film, then Aditya Chopra decided to direct the film and DDLJ became his directorial debut film.

Though DDLJ received high success commercially and critically, Saif Ali Khan never expressed his repentance or regrets in front of media or in any interviews for rejecting the iconic role of Raj offered by Aditya Chopra, accepted it as a part of an actor's career choices.

Why did Shah Rukh Khan reject 3 Idiots, Munnabhai MBBS and Robo?

Shahrukh Khan rejected the three movies for the following reasons:

3 IDIOTS:

Rajkumar Hirani narrated the script to SRK and he liked it but King Khan was not able to give it a green signal due to date problems.

MUNNABHAI MBBS:

Shahrukh rejected Munnabhai MBBS stating that he was suffering from back problems. Wonder, if this was just another way to say NO.

ROBOT:

Shahrukh walked out from ROBOT due to two reasons. The first one was that he wanted a few changes in the script but the director of the film S Shankar denied.

Secondly, Shankar wanted the computer graphics (CG) to be done by Hollywood’s Stan Winston Studios and SRK was keen that the computer graphics of the film should be done by Red Chillies VFX.

Which blockbuster movies were rejected by Salman Khan?

‘One man’s loss is another man’s gain.’ Whoever said this knew exactly what it meant. The saying goes very well for the many films that were initially offered to Salman Khan but ended up making someone else a bigger star.

Baazigar

Baazigar was Shahrukh Khan‘s breakthrough role that launched him into the league of Bollywood Stars. But you may be surprised to know that the role was initially offered to Salman Khan. Apparently, Salman was the first choice of the director Abbas-Mastan but he rejected it as the anti-hero role was risky. The negative role earned SRK a Filmfare Award for Best Actor!

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

The most iconic romantic movie of Bollywood Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is another movie that Salman refused for some unknown reasons. Had he known that DDLJ will go on to complete 1000 weeks, he would have thought twice!

Josh

Can’t you totally imagine Salman Khan as Max Dias in Josh? Apparently, the director also thought so but Salman refused to be a part of the film. Some say that it was due to date issues, but there are some who believe that Salman could never bear to play Aishwarya Rai‘s brother!

Kal Ho Na Ho

Salman was also offered the role of Aman (later played by Saif Ali Khan) in Kal Ho Na Ho. Perhaps the thought of being just a supporting actor to Shah Rukh Khan didn’t go so well with him. Saif Ali Khan won several awards for the film.

Chak De! India

Shah Rukh Khan’s much-acclaimed role as the coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team was first offered to Salman. Sadly, he rejected the role due to unknown reasons.

Ghajini

Now, this role was definitely made for Salman Khan in all senses. Though Aamir Khan did a superb job, Salman could have also pulled off the role well. In fact, Aamir himself recommended Salman’s name after reading the script. But the role ultimately fell into Aamir’s lap.

Salman was set to reunite with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after 20 years. The romantic drama movie was supposed to star Alia Bhatt opposite Salman. Everything was on track, and even the release date was locked until the news broke that the movie had been shelved. Salman is no longer a part of the project due to alleged creative differences.

Who are some Bollywood celebrities who rejected a movie because they didn’t like their co-star?

Bollywood celebrities clearly have a life beyond the on-screen drama, and personal relationships are something even they have no control over. So before the movie is made, it is not uncommon for the stars to decide if they want to be the part of a film or not.

From looks to dialogues to having a creative opinion, these stars are also picky with the movies they sign. There are plenty of examples where these celebs have downright said no to movies, also because they did not like their co-star, courtesy nasty breakups, looks and on-screen chemistry. Wondering who? Check this out.

1. Ranbir Kapoor And Sonakshi Sinha

Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha were going to work together in a romantic comedy Bollywood movie but turns out, Ranbir wasn't too happy about it. He walked out of the film with a big NO, as he thought he looked too young to be sharing the screen with Sonakshi. Rumours have it that he asked for another actress but since that was not possible, he chose to walk out instead.

2. Bipasha Basu And John Abraham

It's pretty clear why Bipasha and John won't want to work together, given the break-up they had. When asked about doing a film together, John said "Working with Bipasha Basu is not even on my mind." Even the actress has been quite vocal about not wanting to work with John. This makes it all clear!

3. Ranveer Singh And Katrina Kaif

Apparently, there was a time when instead of Sidharth Malhotra, Ranveer Singh was offered Baar Baar Dekho but he turned it down to not offend his beau Deepika Padukone. Back in time, since Deepika and Katrina were a subject of page 3 gossip columns, the actor just wanted to steer clear of any controversies and hence chose to reject the movie.

4. Aishwarya Rai And Emraan Hashmi

Koffee with Karan has given a lot of celebs a chance to blatantly blurt out whatever they want and turns out the same happened with Emraan Hashmi when he called out Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and said she is 'plastic'. So, when the actress was offered Baadshahoshe turned it down when she learnt her co-star would be Emraan.

5. Amitabh Bachchan And Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor Khan was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first choice for Black but Big B wasn't comfortable after knowing that she was roped as his co-star, which is when he refused to be a part of this film. Can you imagine Black without Big B? Since Sanjay Leela Bhansali found him the right fit for the film, Kareena was replaced with Rani Mukherji. The two families have kept a distance as Abhishek and Karisma's engagement was called off.

6. Katrina And Aditya Roy Kapoor

Even though Katrina and Aditya both share a good camaraderie, she refused to work with him. Her career graph fell real low after Fitoor and this was when she started becoming very picky with the movies she did. Not just that, the actress also turned down Half Girlfriend, with co-star Arjun Kapoor as the requisite of the film was to look like a college girl and she felt she looked older than Arjun.

7. Kareena Kapoor Khan And Emraan Hashmi

Looks like Emraan Hashmi tops the chart of controversies as it was not just Aishwarya but also Kareena who turned down a film with him. Initially, the actress agreed to do Karan Johar's, Badtameez Dil with him but wasn't comfortable with a lip-lock scene, which is why she eventually walked out of it.
