Famous Jurist and economist late Shri Nani Palkhivala was asked whom he considered the worst politician of India.
He replied a single person who did the biggest damage to India is Mr. V. P. Singh. Most of the PMs have their positives and negatives. But the PM who has only negatives is Mr. V.P. Singh. He is one person who has done biggest damage to India and there is hardly any positive contribution of him to be remembered.
In his first speech from Red Fort, he declared following
- He announced implementation of Mandal commission for other backward castes. Before this announcement people of India were settled with 22.5 % reservation for SC and ST. Mr. Singh brought a new wave of reservation and caste divide. It also fueled many well off castes demanding reservation. The damage to India by V P Singh is long lasting and irreversible. Many caste leaders still surviving in India are the product of VP Singh era.
- He made a height of muslim appeasement. He declared holiday on prophet Mohammad’s birthday in addition to two Ids and one Muharram. Even muslim country shy away from celebrating their prophet’s birthday. By this decision he actually fueled Hindu anger who were already reeling due to many muslim appeasing decisions of Rajiv Gandhi Govt.
- He declared that new Budhists will be given reservations in SC quota. It accelerated the conversions from Hinduism to Budhism.
- He declared Bharat Ratna for Dr. Bheemrao Ambedkar. With this decision he traveled back in time and set a wrong precedence. There have been many great leaders during Freedom movement and award is actually very small for them.
- The biggest damage was Mandal commission. Student movements started all over India and over 100 students committed self immolation.
