Difference between yellow and white road lines.
The different kind of yellow and white lines on roads aim to signify whether overtaking is permitted or not.
Like this:
Solid double lines indicate that neither stream of traffic is allowed to cross the lines or to put it in simple terms 'no passing'.

When the solid and broken yellow lines are together, you must not pass if you are next to the solid line.
Broken white lines indicate that changing the lane is permitted but should be done with caution.

A single yellow line on the side of the road indicates that parking is prohibited at certain times of the day. This can be mainly seen in the United Kingdom.
