MGR rose from poverty at young age; his widowed mother worked as servant maid and took care of her two sons - MGR and Chakrapani; without the affordability for food, he could not go to school and joined a Boys Drama Company, along with his brother, at the age of 9 and learnt the nuances and intricacies of acting - particularly a Stunt Actor.
His first film Sati Leelavathy - directed by Ellis R. Dunkan was released in 1936!
From then on, he went up in fame and popularity - step by step, to reach the stage where Film Producers had to wait for his Call-sheet to act in their films. Virtually every film of him was a Super Duper Hit! The Producers became Millionaires!
He was attracted by the Speeches of Dr. C.N. Annadurai, M.A. Phd. and became his ardent disciple.
History has it why he was respected by the people of TN - as their deity in their heart - even after 39 years have passed, since his demise! MGR never forgot his childhood poverty - told that background openly about how his mother provided them food by working as a servant maid. This propelled him to eradicate the poverty of the poor and the downtrodden. During his rule, he revived the Mid-Day Meals Scheme for School Children - which was started by another great Leader K. Kamaraj and was stopped by a rogue Political rascal known as Evil Force!
For MGR his mother was his God. So everyday morning he used to pray before his mother’s photo and then only go out for his work!

When MGR was CM of TN - according to the request of the Pontiff of Sri Rangam Mutt - MGR allotted funds and technical Engineers in successfully building the Tower of Sri Rangam Temple - which is the highest Hindu Temple Tower in entire Asia.
The Rajagopuram at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, is
239.5 feet (73 meters)
tall. It features 13 tiers and is one of the tallest temple towers in Asia !
Hence as long as Srirangam Temple Rajagopuram stands - the fame of MGR will stand forever!
