Who are some actors who seriously regret turning down iconic movie roles?

Lots and lots and lots of them.

Once an actor reaches to a point in their career where they have the opportunity to choose between job offers, it comes with the risk that they might turn down the next big thing.

Here are a few of them:

Leonardo DiCaprio was initially asked to star in “Brokeback Mountain” as Ennis Del Mar, but thankfully turned the part down. As we now know, Heath Ledger got cast in the role and was later nominated for an Oscar for his performance. Can you imagine a Brokeback without Ledger?

This one’s gotta hurt. Gwyneth Paltrow turned down playing Rose in the movie “Titanic” and has never revealed her reasons why. I can understand her. In came Kate Winslet and she and Leonardo formed one of the most iconic duos in movie history. The movie became an absolute success and won 11 of their 14 oscar nominations. I’m glad Leo didn’t pass on this movie as well…

Matt Damon had to turn down playing the lead in “Avatar” due to still filming the Bourne movies. Damon has stated that he really wanted to play Jake Sully in Avatar but that it was impossible because of conflicting schedules. Avatar became one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
