What actor is the best at playing weirdo roles?

 Ayushman Khurana

Ayushman Khurana has made his career playing either characters who are weird or with whom weird things happen.

Starting from his debut film Vicky Donor (2011) where he played a sp**m donor. He played a bl*nd man who is not actually bl*nd and who witness a m*rder. In Dum Lagai ke Haisha he played a man married to an over sized woman. In Bareilly ki Barfi he plays a man in love who fells for the writer of the book he wrote but published under someone else's name. In Badhai Ho (2018) he played the son of a mother who got pregnant at old age. In Bala, he played a bald man, in Shubh Mangal Savdhan he was suffering from er**tile dysfunction, in Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan he played a hom*se*ual. In Chandigarh Kare Aashiqi he played a man who was in love with a woman who was earlier a man!! In Dream Girl he played a man impersonating a woman to earn money. And in Thamma, he played a vampire.

In short, there has been almost next to no films of Ayushman Khurana where he hasnt played a character which is not weird in some or other rway or who is facing some weird issues. He was very successful in such films and therefore Ayushman Khurana small town movies became a genre in itself. However post COVID his films have lost their magic and he is now struggling to make success out of his eccentric movies.

What are the weird roles of Bollywood actors?

1. Imran Khan in ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai… Dobara’

Is there any justification for this casting? Nope. Imran entered as the ‘chocolate boy’ of Bollywood, and his efforts to defy that typecast failed. He’s a great actor, but not convincing enough to play a gangster, and someone more convincing could have been roped in for the role.

2. Nargis Fakhri in Rockstar

Rockstar is a great movie. It’s one of the few things in Bollywood that are sacred, and it shouldn’t be touched. But if there was one thing we wish would change, is Fakhri as the character Heer Kaul. She wasn’t great at the parts where acting was involved and it just seemed like an odd pairing to an otherwise beautifully painful movie.

3. Shah Rukh Khan in Fan

Shah Rukh Khan played the character of the star perfectly, but a younger actor could have easily been cast to play the part of the fan. It looked odd to see SRK play the role of a much younger person, but maybe he didn’t wish to play a mere supporting role in the movie.

4. Shah Rukh Khan in Jab Harry Met Sejal

Shah Rukh and Anushka Sharma have delivered great hits such as Rabb Ne Bana Di Jodi (which deserves a separate article of its own) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. But the pairing looked very weird in JHMS, owing to the age gap between the two.

5. Himesh Reshammiya in all his movies

Whoever promised the man an illustrious career in acting, I just wanna talk… I mean, the man made a remake of ‘Karz’ and then completely botched it, unapologetically. And then didn’t even stop there. Kyun?

6. Shraddha Kapoor in Haseena Parkar

The movie is a biopic on the life of Haseena Parkar, but Shraddha Kapoor failed to portray the character as a human being with complex emotions, and the performance seemed robotic and devoid of any nuance.

7. Salman Khan in Tubelight

Image Credit: Salman Khan Films, Kabir Khan Films

Salman Khan is best suited to play the role of a toxic cop who doesn’t follow the rules and goes around shoving his masculinity in other people’s faces. That is also the end of his ‘acting’ threshold. We never would have bet on him to play the character of a challenged person convincingly, and the movie only furthers that he is best suited for roles that are, for the lack of a better word, macho.

8. Katrina Kaif in Rajneeti

Image Credit: Prakash Jha Productions Walkwater Media Ltd

The movie was great, and her accent and lack of acting skills did not sit well at all. Why was this even a casting decision, we’ll never know.

What role in what film was turned down by the most actors?

“Die Hard”, today remembered as an iconic action picture, had difficulty getting itself a leading man:

Willis as John McClane

The picture was based on the novel “Nothing Lasts Forever” a sequel to a cop procedural titled “The Detective” that had been adapted into a hit film with Frank Sinatra in 1968. Die Hard had the same plot under-pinnings as “Forever” — a police detective battling the bad guys in an office tower, although details were different. The officer in the script was younger, not divorced and way more smart-ass.

Sinatra, though no longer young, was offered the script. Likewise Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Richard Gere, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Burt Reynolds. All of them turned it down.

One of the few actors who was interested or didn’t have scheduling conflicts was TV star Bruce Willis, whose big-screen career to that point consisted of a pair of underwhelming comedies directed by Blake Edwards, one of which made some money (“Blind Date”) and one (“Sunset”) that bombed. Willis recalled:

Things were happening so fast I didn’t have time to sit down and go, “Here’s what I want to have happen this year, or next year, or in five years.” I was never that guy anyway. I was never the guy that said, “OK, in five years, I need to be HERE.” … All I knew was I got to act every day on TV.

The show [Moonlighting] had become popular by 1988, I think I’d already read the script for Die Hard once, but had to pass because of the show. As it turns out, a miracle happened — Cybill Shepherd got pregnant and they shut down the show for 11 weeks — just the right amount of time for me to run around over at Nakatomi Tower.

Bruce Willis was offered the part of Officer John McClane along with a fee of five million dollars. He happily accepted, performed many of his own stunts, and cracked wise throughout. The result became a major hit for Twentieth Century Fox, one that hoisted Mr. Willis to big screen stardom.

Which actors have seriously regretted turning down roles in iconic Hollywood films?

When an actor reaches a point in their career where they have the opportunity to choose between several job offers, they run the risk of turning down the next big project.

Here are a few examples:

Leonardo DiCaprio was offered the role of Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," but thankfully he turned it down. As we now know, Heath Ledger got the part and was later nominated for an Oscar for his performance. Can you imagine "Brokeback" without Ledger?

That one must sting. Gwyneth Paltrow turned down the role of Rose in "Titanic" and never revealed her reasons. I can understand her. Then Kate Winslet came along and formed one of the most iconic on-screen duos in cinematic history with Leonardo DiCaprio. The film became a massive hit and garnered 11 of their 14 Oscar nominations. I'm glad Leo didn't turn down that film too...

Matt Damon had to turn down the lead role in "Avatar" because he was still filming the Bourne movies. Damon stated that he really wanted to play Jake Sully in Avatar but it was impossible due to scheduling conflicts. Avatar went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
