Helen married Prem Narayan Arora who was 27 years older than her. She was only nineteen years old at the time of the marriage. The marriage lasted of 16 years.
According to reports, P. N. Arora was accused of using Helen’s money. Helen was doing well in the film industry and there used to be a lot of clashes between the two regarding financial issues.
P. N Arora was misusing Helen’s wealth. He had taken the entire control and custody of her wealth. Besides this, Helen had even handed the control of her properties to Arora who even threw Helen out of her own house.
As time passed Helen struggled to find work due to changing industry trends where heriones began performing their own glamourous dance numbers. As a result, Helen was left almost penniless and at one stage did not had funds to pay for her rented house.
Helen sought help from veteran actor Dilip Kumar and writer Salim Khan. On the instance of Dilip Kumar, underworld don Karim Lala intervened and helped Helen to claim her house back.
Finally, Helen divorced P. N. Arora in 1974 on her 36th birthday and married Salim Khan in 1981.
