Anushka Sharma is not a Punjabi.
“There is a widely accepted misconception about me that I hail from Punjab. May be, it is because I look very Punjabi, but I am actually from Bengaluru and very proudly so. But I guess that my persona is very much like a Punjabi kudi and that is exactly what you will see me playing in my next movie.”
Anushka spent a major part of her life in Bangalore.
As a result of spending lot of years in Bangalore she is well acquainted with the language of the city.
She stated that the first time she learnt to speak in Punjabi was when preparing for her debut film 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.'
Anushka played Punjabi characters in films such as 'Band Baaja Baaraat' and 'Patiala House' in the following years which gave her the impression that she is typical Punjabi girl.
Anushka herself clarified years ago she's not a Punjabi.“Punjabis have a typical accent and it was very important for me to perfect that. Just notice carefully and you will find that they don’t complete the sentence or a few words and they really speak very fast. It took some time to perfect that accent, but I think that I have been able to do it well.”
Thus people started talking about her being a Punjabi and she was epitomized to be the ideal Punjabi girl.
